Use of individual race results in the estimation of genetic parameters of trotting performance for Finnhorse and Standardbred trotters

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 2008
The heritability and repeatability for trotting performance traits were estimated from individual race results. Data comprised of records from 1991 to 1995 for 4808 Finnhorses and from 1993 to 1995 for 5869 Standardbred trotters.

Animals’ Race Against the Machines

open access: yes, 2017
Nowadays, we are witnessing an acceleration of the debate on animal legal rights. The discussion has its legislative counterpart: a growing number of states have passed legislation widening animal legal rights or even granting them personhood. In comparison, the debate on artificial agents’ personhood is only theoretical, although some legislation ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Searching for Differences in Race: Is There Evidence for Preferential Detection of Other-Race Faces?

open access: yes, 2009
Previous research has suggested that like animal and social fear-relevant stimuli, other-race faces (African American) are detected preferentially in visual search.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

How to Fuck a Kraken

open access: yesHumanimalia, 2017
Recent theories in posthumanism and animal studies have shown how race, gender, and sexuality help constitute the boundaries of the human and the animal as such.
