The Architecture of Large Kurgans of the Scythians and Their Periphery: A Challenge for Magnetometer Prospections in the Eurasian Steppe Belt

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The burial mounds of the early Iron Age, which we will refer to below as kurgans, from the nomadic equestrian warriors of Eurasia, form a very complex group of archaeological monuments. Archaeological excavations in Aržan 2 (Siberia) and Aleksandropol (Ukraine) show that the large burial mounds are complex architectural constructions.

Cost‐effective in‐mine seismic experiments to image platinum deposits and associated geological structures at Maseve platinum mine, South Africa

open access: yesNear Surface Geophysics, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 572-589, December 2022., 2022
ABSTRACT The detection of mineral deposits and their related geological structures is of great importance to the mining industry as structures (such as dykes and faults) can affect the safety, cost and efficiency of mining. With the goal of testing cost‐effective seismic methods for mineral exploration and mining, active and passive seismic experiments

Depth Estimation fusing Image and Radar Measurements with Uncertain Directions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This paper proposes a depth estimation method using radar-image fusion by addressing the uncertain vertical directions of sparse radar measurements. In prior radar-image fusion work, image features are merged with the uncertain sparse depths measured by radar through convolutional layers.

RadSimReal: Bridging the Gap Between Synthetic and Real Data in Radar Object Detection With Simulation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Object detection in radar imagery with neural networks shows great potential for improving autonomous driving. However, obtaining annotated datasets from real radar images, crucial for training these networks, is challenging, especially in scenarios with long-range detection and adverse weather and lighting conditions where radar performance excels. To

A Hybrid Neural Network Framework and Application to Radar Automatic Target Recognition

open access: yes, 2018
Deep neural networks (DNNs) have found applications in diverse signal processing (SP) problems. Most efforts either directly adopt the DNN as a black-box approach to perform certain SP tasks without taking into account of any known properties of the ...
