Competition indices and the prediction of radial growth in Scots pine.

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 1987
The effect of competition on the radial growth of Scots pine ( L.) was studied in three naturally regenerated stands located in North Karelia, Finland. The competition situation of an individual tree was described with various competition indices which ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

P2.03 AORTIC, BUT NOT RADIAL PRESSURE GIVES A MODEL INDEPENDENT ESTIMATE OF CEREBRAL ARTERY CRITICAL CLOSING PRESSURE

open access: yesArtery Research, 2013
Objectives: Cerebral artery critical closing pressure (CCP) is an estimated parameter with no single accepted method of calculation. Variation between methods could be significant.

Radial velocity variations in pulsating Ap stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2005
We have used precise stellar radial velocities to study the pulsational motion of the rapidly oscillating Ap star 10 Aql. Observations were made on three separate nights using the high resolution spectrograph of the Harlan J. Smith 2.7 m telescope at McDonald Observatory.

Validation of a X-Ray densitometry method for the determination of Eucalyptus grandis and Eucalyptus urophylla radial density profile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The X-ray densitometry is considered one of the main non-destructive techniques for the analysis of wood due to the high precision and practicality. The method has been applied in determining the density of the wood, and the density variation is a result

Enzymatic and microbial routes to bioplastics: The green chemistry frontier of biopolymers

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Microbial biosynthesis and engineered enzyme platforms are expanding the design space of polyhydroxyalkanoate bioplastics. By combining fermentation, PHA synthase engineering and cell‐free modular systems, tailored biodegradable polymers can be produced with tunable properties, supporting more sustainable materials and future circular bioeconomy ...

Effects on radial growth rate on basic density and compressive strength in 10-year-old Swietenia macrophylla planted in South Kalimantan, Indonesia

open access: yesForest Science and Technology
To evaluate the effect of radial growth rate on wood properties (basic density and compressive strength parallel to the grain under green conditions), standing tree characteristics (stem diameter, tree height, and stress-wave velocity of stems) were ...

Penetration And Scattering Of Lower Hybrid Waves By Density Fluctuations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Lower Hybrid [LH] ray propagation in toroidal plasma is controlled by a combination of the azimuthal spectrum launched from the antenna, the poloidal variation of the magnetic field, and the scattering of the waves by the density fluctuations.

Developmental, Neuroanatomical and Cellular Expression of Genes Causing Dystonia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Dystonia is one of the most common movement disorders, with variants in multiple genes identified as causative. However, an understanding of which developmental stages, brain regions, and cell types are most relevant is crucial for developing relevant disease models and therapeutics.
