Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Post-Irradiation Annealing of Bi Ion Tracks in Si3N4: In-Situ and Ex-Situ Transmission Electron Microscopy Study

open access: yesCrystals
High-energy (710 MeV) Bi ion track morphology in polycrystalline silicon nitride was investigated during post-irradiation annealing. Using both in-situ and ex-situ transmission electron microscopy, we monitored the recovery of crystallinity within ...

Radiation Defects in Heterostructures 3C-SiC/4H-SiC

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
The effect of 8 MeV proton irradiation on n-3C-SiC epitaxial layers grown by sublimation on semi-insulating 4H-SiC substrates has been studied. Changes in sample parameters were recorded using the Hall-effect method and judged from photoluminescence ...

C3TM: CEI CCD charge transfer model for radiation damage analysis and testing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Radiation induced defects in the silicon lattice of Charge Couple Devices (CCDs) are able to trap electrons during read out and thus create a smearing effect that is detrimental to the scientific data.

Radiation defect dynamics in SiC with pre-existing defects

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics, 2019
The influence of pre-existing lattice disorder on radiation defect dynamics in SiC remains unexplored. Here, we use a pulsed ion beam method to study dynamic annealing in Ar-ion-bombarded 3C-SiC at 200 °C with different levels of pre-existing lattice disorder.

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Radiation-produced defects in germanium: experimental data and models of defects

open access: yesФизика и техника полупроводников, 2017
The problem of radiation-produced defects in n-Ge before and after n-> p conversion is discussed in the light of electrical data obtained by means of Hall effect measurements as well as Deep Level Transient Spectroscopy. The picture of the dominant radiation defects in irradiated n-Ge before n-> p conversion appears to be complicated,

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

Reverse annealing in radiation-damaged, silicon solar cells [PDF]

open access: yes
In order to understand the results in terms of properties of the radiation induced defects, a combination of diffusion length measurements and defect data obtained from Deep Level Transient Spectroscopy were used.
