Long‐Term Outcomes of Patients With Relapsed/Refractory Neuroblastoma Treated on ANBL1221: A Report From the Children's Oncology Group

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Results of COG ANBL1221 changed treatment paradigms for patients with relapsed/refractory neuroblastoma. Chemoimmunotherapy with irinotecan/temozolomide/dinutuximab is now used as both bridge therapy following suboptimal response to induction and as treatment in first relapse.

Survival by Race and Ethnicity in Children and Adolescents/Young Adults With Relapsed/Refractory Hodgkin Lymphoma: A Pooled Analysis of Children's Oncology Group Trials

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Despite 5‐year survival rates of over 90% among children and adolescents/young adults (CAYAs) with classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL), 15%–20% relapse after frontline therapy. Prior analysis of frontline Children's Oncology Group (COG) clinical trials demonstrated that, despite similar rates of relapse, non‐Hispanic Black (NHB) and ...

Effects of Radiation on the Tumor Microenvironment

open access: yesSeminars in Radiation Oncology, 2020
A malignant tumor consists of malignant cells as well as a wide array of normal host tissues including stroma, vasculature, and immune infiltrate. The interaction between cancer and these host tissues is critical as these host tissues play a variety of ...

The Relationship Between Physical Activity and Left Ventricular Remodeling in Childhood Cancer Survivors Treated With Anthracyclines: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Anthracycline‐related cardiac remodeling precedes heart failure in childhood cancer survivors. The objectives of this study were to determine the relationships between patient‐specific factors, moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and cardiac remodeling.

Mutational Signatures in Radiation-Induced Cancer: A Review of Experimental Animal and Human Studies

open access: yesBiology
Ionizing radiation can damage DNA, leading to mutations, and is a risk factor for cancer. Based on the assumption that all radiation exposure poses a risk in linear proportion to its dose, ionizing radiation is considered a non-threshold carcinogen ...

Microbiota- and Radiotherapy-Induced Gastrointestinal Side-Effects (MARS) Study: A Large Pilot Study of the Microbiome in Acute and Late-Radiation Enteropathy

open access: yesClinical Cancer Research, 2019
Purpose: Radiotherapy is important in managing pelvic cancers. However, radiation enteropathy may occur and can be dose limiting. The gut microbiota may contribute to the pathogenesis of radiation enteropathy.

Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Survival in Western Kenya: Reduction in Early Deaths and Treatment Abandonment

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background An earlier study on children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Kenya reported a low event‐free survival (EFS), excess treatment abandonment, and high induction mortality.

Mutational profiles of spontaneous and radiation-related mammary carcinomas in a rat model of Brca1 haploinsufficiency

open access: yesScientific Reports
Female carriers of a heterozygous germline mutation in BRCA1/2 have a high risk of breast cancer. Although recent research has suggested that genomic instability via BRCA1/2 haploinsufficiency contributes to the early phase of BRCA-associated ...

Germline DNA Retention in Murine and Human Rearranged T Cell Receptor Gene Coding Joints: Alternative Recombination Signal Sequences and V(D)J Recombinase Errors

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
The genes coding for the antigenic T cell receptor (TR) subunits are assembled in thymocytes from discrete V, D, and J genes by a site-specific recombination process.

Ozone—climate interactions and effects on solar ultraviolet radiation

open access: yesPhotochemical and Photobiological Sciences, 2019
This report assesses the effects of stratospheric ozone depletion and anticipated ozone recovery on the intensity of ultraviolet (UV) radiation at the Earth’s surface. Interactions between changes in ozone and changes in climate, as well as their effects
