Radical ion cyclizations

1996
Radical ions generated by single-electron transfer from neutral organic compounds are known as important intermediates in a variety of interesting chemical processes and reactions. Our aim in this article will be to provide a comprehensive review of the design and application of cyclization reactions that utilize radical ions as reactive intermediates.

5-Endo-Dig Radical Cyclizations:  “The Poor Cousins” of the Radical Cyclizations Family

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2005
Kinetics and thermodynamics of 5-endo-dig radical cyclizations were studied using a combination of DFT computations and Marcus theory. When the reactant is stabilized by conjugation of the radical center with the bridge pi-system, the cyclization starts with reorientation of the radical orbital needed to reach the in-plane acetylene pi-orbital in the ...

Lewis acid-mediated radical cyclization: stereocontrol in cascade radical addition–cyclization–trapping reactions

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2012
An efficient approach for achieving radical cyclizations by using hydroxamate ester as a coordination tether with Lewis acid was studied. The chiral Lewis acid-mediated cascade radical addition-cyclization-trapping reaction proceeded smoothly with good enantio- and diastereoselectivities, providing various chiral γ-lactams.

Free Radical Cyclizations

2013
The free radical cyclizations of hex-5-enes (1 in Fig. 7.1) were accomplished some time ago, and although the origin of selectivity was not initially understood, the stereochemistry at the newly created centers was predictable in some of the cases.

Cyclization of cyanoalkyl radicals

Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Division of Chemical Science, 1977
Intramolecular homolytic addition to the CN group was observed for the first time. As the result of the reaction, and the subsequent hydrolysis of the cyclization product, cyanoalkyl radicals of type RĊHXCN, where X is a chain of three carbon atoms and R is hydrogen or alkyl, are converted in aqueous solution into cycloalkanones .

Controlling the regiochemistry of radical cyclizations

The Chemical Record, 2006
AbstractThis review describes the results of our recent studies on the control of the regiochemistry of radical cyclizations. N‐vinylic α‐chloroacetamides generally cyclized in a 5‐endo‐trig manner to give five‐membered lactams, whereas 4‐exo‐trig cyclization occurred when the cyclized radical intermediates were highly stabilized by an adjacent phenyl ...

Radical cyclizations of hydrazones.

2009
The preparation of various hydrazones for use in radical cyclizations is described. The radical cyclization of (A) and (B) under various radical conditions led to the tandem cyclization of octahydroindoles (C) and (D) under neutral conditions. The reaction of (E) under various radical conditions led to the first synthesis of a seven membered ring by ...
