Hounsfield-based Automatic Evaluation of Volumetric Breast Density on Radiotherapy CT-Scans [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Radiotherapy is an integral part of treatment for many patients with breast cancer. However, side effects can occur, Example fibrosis or erythema. If patients at higher risks of radiation induced side effects could be identified before treatment, they could be given more individual information about the risks and benefits of radiotherapy.

Adjuvant Radiotherapy for Groin Node Metastases Following Surgery for Vulvar Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesOncology Reviews
Background: Lymph node metastasis in vulvar cancer is a critical prognostic factor associated with higher recurrence and decreased survival. A survival benefit is reported with adjuvant radiotherapy but with potential significant morbidity.

The impact of adjuvant therapies on patient survival and the recurrence patterns for resected stage IIa–IVa lower thoracic oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2018
Background This study evaluated the impact of adjuvant therapies on patient survival and disease recurrence patterns to identify an effective adjuvant therapy for resected lower thoracic oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (LTESCC). Methods Clinical data

Radiotherapy Dosimetry: A Review on Open-Source Optimizer [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Radiotherapy dosimetry plays a crucial role in optimizing treatment plans for cancer patients. In this study, we investigate the performance of a dozen standard state-of-the-art open-source optimizers for radiotherapy dosimetry. Our evaluation includes the use of TGG119 benchmark cases as well as one real case obtained from the Institute du Cancer de ...

Interventions for the treatment of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer:chemotherapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers are frequently described as part of a group of oral cancers or head and neck cancer. Treatment of oral cavity cancer is generally surgery followed by radiotherapy, whereas oropharyngeal

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

Does chemotherapy or radiotherapy affect the postoperative complication in breast cancer patients who underwent immediate breast reconstruction with tissue expander?

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2021
Background Immediate breast reconstruction with tissue expander in breast cancer patients who were expected to receive adjuvant therapy, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, has been a topic of debate.

Adjuvant radiotherapy does not affect hemostasis

open access: yesPlatelets, 2018
Cancer is associated with increased risk of venous thromboembolic disease. Venous thromboembolic disease accounts for a substantial addition to morbidity and mortality rates in cancer patients and is the second leading cause of death in cancer patients, exceeded only by the underlying cancer. Only few previous studies have investigated the influence of

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.
