Efficacy and Safety of Locoregional Radiotherapy With Chemotherapy vs Chemotherapy Alone in De Novo Metastatic Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: A Multicenter Phase 3 Randomized Clinical Trial.

open access: yesJAMA Oncology, 2020
Importance The role of locoregional radiotherapy in patients with de novo metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (mNPC) is unclear. Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of locoregional radiotherapy in de novo mNPC.

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

Inhibition of IKK-NFκB pathway sensitizes lung cancer cell lines to radiation

open access: yesCancer Biology & Medicine, 2017
Objective : Cancer cell radioresistance is a stumbling block in radiation therapy. The activity in the nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) pathway correlates with anti-apoptotic mechanisms and increased radioresistance.

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Expanding the use of real-time electromagnetic tracking in radiation oncology. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the past 10 years, techniques to improve radiotherapy delivery, such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) for both inter- and intrafraction tumor localization, and hypofractionated delivery techniques ...

Radiotherapy induces responses of lung cancer to CTLA-4 blockade

open access: yesNature Network Boston, 2018
Focal radiation therapy enhances systemic responses to anti-CTLA-4 antibodies in preclinical studies and in some patients with melanoma1–3, but its efficacy in inducing systemic responses (abscopal responses) against tumors unresponsive to CTLA-4 ...

EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

MLC parameters from static fields to VMAT plans: an evaluation in a RT-dedicated MC environment (PRIMO)

open access: yesRadiation Oncology, 2019
Background PRIMO is a graphical environment based on PENELOPE Monte Carlo (MC) simulation of radiotherapy beams able to compute dose distribution in patients, from plans with different techniques. The dosimetric characteristics of an HD-120 MLC (Varian),
