Deep Learning (Fast R-CNN)-Based Evaluation of Rail Surface Defects

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In current railway rails, trains are propelled by the rolling contact between iron wheels and iron rails, and the high frequency of train repetition on rails results in a significant load exertion on a very small area where the wheel and rail come into ...

Lightweight Convolutional Neural Networks Model and Data Augmentation‐Based Background Regression for Rail Surface Defect Detection

open access: yesArtificial Intelligence for Engineering, EarlyView.
An ultra‐lightweight semantic segmentation network RailNet with only 0.905 M parameters is proposed for rail surface defect detection. Combined with a CDBM image enhancement and GAN‐based data augmentation, RailNet achieves superior segmentation accuracy and real‐time speed on edge devices.

Rail-to-ground Insulation Defect Diagnosis Method Based on Spatiotemporal Correlation of Rail Potential

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
Objective The data of various monitoring points regarding rail potential as monitoring object is correlated in time and space, and the direct manifestation of changes in rail-to-rebar structural resistance is reflected in rail potential variation.

An induction heating system for in situ X‐ray diffraction imaging: design, simulation and application to dislocation dynamics in semiconductors

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
This work presents a compact induction heating system for time‐resolved in situ X‐ray diffraction imaging. The system enables contact‐free volumetric heating up to approximately 1600°C and provides flexible operation in different operating modes. Its performance is demonstrated through representative diffraction imaging experiments. We present a compact

Market Integration and Nonlinear Price Transmission in 19th‐Century British Wheat Markets

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Important developments in infrastructure and institutions characterized 19th‐Century wheat markets in Great Britain. Among these developments was the construction of the national rail system which enabled cheaper and more efficient transport of grain and other bulky cargoes between inland towns and ports.

Neurodevelopmental Phenotypes and Brain Anomalies in Individuals With Heterozygous SEMA6A Variants

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
SEMA6A plays a role in cell migration and axon guidance in the developing central nervous system. Phenotypes seen in eleven individuals heterozygous for SEMA6A variants included developmental delay, intellectual disability, autism/autistic behaviors, behavioral abnormalities, attention disorders, hypotonia, and brain anomalies.

Story2Board: A Training‐Free Approach for Expressive Visual Storytelling

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We present Story2Board, a training‐free framework for expressive storyboard generation from natural language. Existing methods narrowly focus on subject identity, overlooking key aspects of visual storytelling such as spatial composition, background evolution, and narrative pacing.

Management of RCF rail defects

open access: yes, 2016
Infrastructure Manager should monitor the wear of rail steel and development of defects on the running surface of rails in order to accomplish efficient lifecycle management of rails. According to the collected statistical data on wear as a function of accumulated load, it is possible to create mathematical models of rail steel wear and removal of ...
