Generalization of anomaly detection in bridge structures using a vibration‐based Siamese convolutional neural network

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 18, Page 2751-2768, 18 July 2025.
Abstract Corrosion is one of the main damages in steel bridges, which appears as a loss of material and sectional area and causes member failure over time. A reliable bridge management system not only should help in preventing catastrophic structural failure by employing an in‐time anomaly detection approach for all the bridges within a network but ...

Experimental Study on Settlement Behavior of Ballasted Tracks with Polymer Compound-Coated Gravel

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
The ballast used in ballasted railway tracks transmits load from the rails and ties to the subgrade during train travel, and directly affects the overall track support performance and elastic behavior of the ballasted track.

A direct method for analyzing the vertical vehicle-structure interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A new method for the dynamic analysis of the vertical vehicle-structure interaction is presented. The vehicle and structure systems can be discretized with various types of finite elements and may have any degree of complexity.

Rigid Body Dynamics of Railway Ballast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A method for the discrete particle simulation of almost rigid, sharply edged frictional particles, such as railway ballast is proposed. In difference to Molecular Dynamics algorithms, the method does not require knowledge about the deformation-force law of the material.

Probiotic‐Based Approaches for Sustainable Control of Infectious Risk in Mass Transport: Current Data and Future Perspectives

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 6, June 2025.
High‐traffic areas, such as mass transportation environments, can have a significant impact on infection transmission, and chemical disinfection may favour the selection of drug‐resistant microbes. Probiotic‐based approaches have the potential to be a novel and ecologically sustainable option for controlling bioburden and preventing infections ...

A comparison on the effects of coal fines and sand fouling on the shear behaviors of railway ballast using large scale direct shear tests

open access: yesJournal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering (English ed. Online)
Railway ballast is easily contaminated by different fouling material and the fouled ballast always causes the deterioration of railway track. Many previous studies focused on the effect of a certain kind of fouling material on ballast performance, but ...

Ballast Contamination Mechanisms: A Criterial Review of Characterisation and Performance Indicators

open access: yesInfrastructures, 2020
Across the world, ballasted railway tracks are utilised extensively due to their cost efficiency, ease of drainage, and capacity to withstand cyclic imposed loadings from heavy trains.

Classification of direct threats to the conservation of ecosystems and species 4.0

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2025.
Abstract Identifying and assessing the magnitude of direct threats to ecosystems and species are critical steps to prioritizing, planning, implementing, and assessing conservation actions. Just as medical clinicians and researchers need a standard way to talk about human diseases, conservation practitioners and scientists need a common and ...

Treatment and recovery of contaminated railway ballast [PDF]

open access: yesTURKISH JOURNAL OF ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, 2014
Experimental tests of metal extraction from stones sampled from articially contaminated railway ballasts are presented and discussed. Metal extraction was performed by washing with aqueous solutions of disodium ethylenedi- aminetetraacetate (EDTA), at selected concentrations. The eectiveness of the remediation process was evaluated using leaching tests.

A multilevel track defects assessment framework based on vehicle body vibration

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 12, Page 1688-1720, 9 May 2025.
Abstract High‐frequency detection of track defects is crucial for accurate track condition assessment and system safety. Onboard vibration data collection devices can significantly increase detection density without additional costs. However, defect assessment based on this is significantly challenging, including the spatial heterogeneity of track ...
