Prediction of Attenuation by Rain
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1980A new model is presented for the prediction of attenuation by rain on either terrestrial or slant earth-to-space propagation paths. The model was developed using geophysical observations of the statistics of point rain rate, of the horizontal structure of rainfall, and of the vertical temperature structure of the atmosphere.

A Stochastic Dynamic Model of Rain Attenuation
IRE Transactions on Communications Systems, 1981A dynamic mathematical model of rain attenuation has been developed and is presented in this paper. This model permits the expression of analytic relationships between parameters commonly used to describe the properties of interest for communication. The dynamic model is based on the lognormal distribution of rain attenuation and utilizes a memoryless ...

Rain attenuation statistics from rain cell diameters and heights
International Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, 2001AbstractThe prediction of satellite link attenuation is generally based on the point rainfall rate for 0.01 per cent of the year. The physical quantity used to determine attenuation is rain rate, whereas the 0.01 per cent point is a more complex parameter, not obviously related to the dynamics of rain structure.

Elevation Scaling of Rain Attenuation Time Series
In satellite links, the variations in the elevation angle have a strong impact on the magnitude of the attenuation induced by rain because the path-length across precipitation increases with the decrease in the elevation. In particular, it is definitely challenging to identify of a proper way to scale the instantaneous values of rain attenuation with ...

Rain height study to predict satellite link rain attenuation
2020 30th International Conference Radioelektronika (RADIOELEKTRONIKA), 2020The height of rain and the zero isotherm height serves as an important parameter to define the satellite link length in the rain volume. This enables to estimate the important rain attenuation. We introduce 5 known models of rain height and computed the zero and minus 15°C isotherme heights in Prague.

2012 20th Telecommunications Forum (TELFOR), 2012
This paper presents the comparison of existing rain rate models with three years one minute average rain rate obtained using a vertically looking micro rain radar. The improved Moupfouma model showed good agreement with the measured rain rate. Rain attenuation for selected broadcast satellites with varying look angles was also estimated.

Effect of rain structure on rain induced attenuation
Annales des Télécommunications, 1977The effect of rain structure on rain induced attenuation is examined. The important role of raindrop-size distribution is evident from the comparison between experimental and calculated data. Commonly adopted parameters for calculating specific attenuation versus rainfall intensity are acceptable for system design at 18 GHz but tend to underestimate ...

Rain attenuation at 73GHz terrestrial link
2012 International Conference on ICT Convergence (ICTC), 2012The paper presents nine months rain attenuation measurements versus rain rate for 0.5 km line-of-sight 73 GHz terrestrial link. The rain attenuation according to rain rate is compared to the ITU-R models. Due to the measurements we have large difference compared to ITU model the attenuation statistics in the E-band.

Simulation of rain attenuation time series
Space Communications, 2006The simulation of a fine space-time structure of rain has great potential applications in many fields of research such as radar-meteorology, hydrology, and telecommunications. A rainfall simulator has been developed based on simple assumptions on the release of raindrops from cloud bases, and on a model of raindrop interarrival time and size ...

An improved version of the exponential cell (EXCELL) rain attenuation model is presented here. Analogously to the original one, it predicts attenuation through a cellular representation of precipitation, but, in addition, is able to discriminate between ...
