Growth-related quantitative trait loci in domestic and wild rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Somatic growth is a complex process that involves the action and interaction of genes and environment. A number of quantitative trait loci (QTL) previously identified for body weight and condition factor in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss),

Pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis) Under Siege: Main Infectious Diseases and Their Role in Aquaculture and Wild Populations Amidst Environmental Change

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 48, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis) is a key species for recreational and commercial fisheries in Argentina and holds significant aquaculture potential. It has been introduced to various countries worldwide, including Japan, where intensive aquaculture has developed.

Growth, Food Habits, and the Relative Effectiveness of Stocking Rainbow Trout (Salmo gairdneri) in South-Central South Dakota [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
The effectiveness of stocking rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) in 47 selected stock ponds in south-central South Dakota was analyzed in 1977 and 1978. Rainbow trout were captured in 31 (66.0%) ponds during the study.

Clinical Presentation and Pathological Effects of a Hydrozoan Bloom on Farmed Atlantic Salmon

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Largely unpredictable, gelatinous plankton blooms are a growing concern for the ever‐expanding mariculture industry. Recently, a bloom of a colonial hydrozoan known as Apolemia sp. was detected via a citizen‐science initiative, Nye.dugnadforhavet.no, in mid‐Norway in July 2023.

Hormonal sex reversal of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) by ethynylestradiol-17α (EE2) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) females grow larger and mature later than males, making all-female stocks economically advantageous. The objective of this research was to develop methods for the production of monosex populations of trout through the ...

Modulation of Sodium and Ammonia Transporters in the Context of Viral Gill Diseases in Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Osmoregulation and ammonia removal are among key physiological processes that take place in gills and affect fish homeostasis and well‐being. These processes can be disrupted by numerous environmental factors, but also by viral infections, especially those leading to severe gill disorders.

Development of a Real‐Time PCR Assay for Noninvasive Detection of Miamiensis avidus in Olive Flounder Aquaculture

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Miamiensis avidus (syn. Philasterides dicentrarchi) leads to high mortality and economic losses in olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) aquaculture. In this study, we developed a real‐time PCR assay targeting the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox1) gene of M. avidus to sensitively detect and quantify the parasite in seawater.
