Study on critical rake angle in nanometric cutting
Applied Physics A: Materials Science and Processing, 2012Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of nanometric-cutting copper are conducted to study the critical rake angle during the cutting process. A new approach based on the maximum displacement of atoms in cutting direction is proposed to estimate the chip formation in MD simulation.

Effect of side edge angle and effective rake angle on top burrs in micro-milling
Abstract Experimental investigations on the effect of side wall edge strengthening, to reduce top burr formation, in micro-milling slots in Al-6061 alloy using a carbide tool are reported here. The side edge is strengthened by increasing the edge angle to a value higher than the usual 90°.

The influence of the rake angle on the excavation energy in a sandstone
Géotechnique Letters, 2017The inclination of the cutting bits has a strong influence on the excavation energy in rocks. As matter of fact, a correct prediction of the cutting forces acting on the bits is very important to geotechnical engineering. Several cutting tests at 1 m/s cutting velocity (with different rake angles and penetration values) were performed on a sandstone ...

The Influence of Higher Rake Angles on Performance in Milling
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1953Abstract This paper presents the results of research on the influence of rake angle on metal-cutting performance when using high-speed-steel cutters. A range of rake angles and cutting speeds was selected and studies made on cutter life and surface finish as a function of these variables.

An Investigation of Radial Rake Angles in Face Milling
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1944Abstract The object of this investigation was to determine the effect of negative and positive radial rake angles in milling cutters upon the power required for the cutting action, the tool life of the cutter, the surface finish, and temperature of the workpiece. Tests were conducted with 2-in.

Rake angle measurement of inclined slotting cutter
The 2nd International Conference on Information Science and Engineering, 2010This paper analyses the blade shape, the parameters of rake angle of slotting cutter. The theoretical analysis process of a novel rake angle error measurement is introduced, which is built on the theory that the rake face of the inclined slotting cutter is a flat surface.

Effect of Helix Angle and Normal Rake Angle on Stability in End Milling
Advanced Materials Research, 2009Chatter phenomenon often occurs during end milling of metal-cutting and becomes a common limitation to achieve high productivity and part quality. This paper studies the relationship expression between the parameters of oblique cutting and milling coefficients by analyzing the geometrical relationship of oblique cutting, and derives the mathematic ...
