A fiber Raman ring laser

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1978
A fiber Raman ring laser was synchronously pumped by a cavity-dumped argon laser. The Raman laser was tuned with either a piezoelectric intracavity interferometer or by varying the pump pulse rate.

Fiber Raman lasers

1987
Fiber Raman lasers are broadly tunable optical frequency converters based on stimulated Raman scattering and Raman oscillation in low-loss glass fibers. Their practically and efficiency are based on the long interaction lengths possible in such fibers. Their relative simplicity and wide spectral region of operation make fiber Raman lasers attractive as

Characteristics of a fiber-optic Raman laser

Applied Optics, 1977
The frequency spectrum of a continuous wave fiber-optic Raman laser is measured and observed to consist of several discrete lines covering a 3-nm spectral range. The output of the laser also contains damped transients which are attributed to strong pump-depletion effects in the fiber. Previously observed degradation of the fiber has been reduced in the

Fiber Raman lasers using all‐fiber resonators

Optical Engineering, 1996
The results of a study of fiber Raman lasers that make use of very simple and elegant feedback mechanisms based on fiber optic coupiers are presented, Traveling-wave and standing-wave resonator structures based on couplers have been numerically simulated to determine optimum design parameters for silica- and germania-based fibers.

Mid-infrared chalcogenide glass Raman fiber laser

Optics Letters, 2013
We report the first demonstration of a Raman fiber laser (RFL) emitting in the mid-infrared, above 3 μm. The operation of a single-mode As2S3 chalcogenide glass based RFL at 3.34 μm is demonstrated by using a low-loss Fabry-Pérot cavity formed by a pair of fiber Bragg gratings. A specially designed quasi-cw erbium-doped fluoride fiber laser emitting at

Amplified-Spontaneous-Emission Pumped Raman Fiber Laser

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/International Quantum Electronics Conference, 2008
We present a low-threshold Raman fiber laser at 1670nm, pumped for the first time by the ASE of an EDFA. The output was 340mW, 34% of the pump power, and the threshold (with another laser) 160mW.

Crystalline and Fiber Raman Lasers

2007
This chapter describes the state of the art of crystalline and fiber Raman lasers based on the simulated Raman scattering (SRS) effect in crystals and silica-based fibers. It includes historical and theoretical background, analysis of properties of known and newly developed high-efficient SRS crystals, such as LiIO3, Ba(NO3)2, NaNO3, PbNO3, CaCO3, KGW,

Statistics of a turbulent Raman fiber laser

Optics Letters, 2015
We report the experimental study of statistical properties of partially coherent waves emitted by a Raman fiber laser operating in the normal dispersion regime. Using an asynchronous optical sampling technique, we accurately measure the probability density function of the optical power of the Stokes wave that exhibits strong and fast fluctuations.

Raman Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers

Frontiers in Optics 2015, 2015
Raman gain is optically-pumped optical amplification. We discuss the discovery of the Raman effect and Raman amplification. Relevant fiber properties are introduced along with an overview of different approaches to Raman amplification. Applications as lasers and lightwave system amplifiers are shown.

Fiber Raman soliton laser pumped by a Nd:YAG laser

Optics Letters, 1987
We have pumped a fiber Raman laser with a continuous-wave mode-locked Nd:YAG laser operating at 1319 nm and generated pulses as short as 160 fsec by using soliton pulse shaping in the fiber. We have also constructed a completely integrated oscillator loop by using a fiber-optic coupler and fusion splicing.
