Evaluation of safety of buildings above tunnels accounting for spatial variability of soil properties

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
Considering the spatial variability of soil properties, a probabilistic evaluation method is proposed for the safety of buildings above tunnels based on the random field theory and the numerical analysis method.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Characteristics of Stratum Disturbance During the Construction of Dual-Line Shield Tunnels with Consideration of Soil Spatial Variability

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Soil spatial variability is an inherent feature of natural strata, and random field theory provides an effective framework for quantifying it, aiding accurate deformation prediction.

Natural vibrations of a beam on stochastic two-layered subsoil with significantly different thickness

open access: yesBudownictwo i Architektura, 2014
In this paper the influence of variability of Young modulus of the subsoil layers on the natural frequency of the beam-two-layered subsoil system was analyzed. Assuming the first layer was thinner and more rigid then the second one (10 and 20 times). The

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Dynamics for the Mean-field Random-cluster Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The random-cluster model has been widely studied as a unifying framework for random graphs, spin systems and random spanning trees, but its dynamics have so far largely resisted analysis.

Metamodel-Based Slope Reliability Analysis—Case of Spatially Variable Soils Considering a Rotated Anisotropy

open access: yesGeosciences, 2021
A rotation of the anisotropic soil fabric pattern is commonly observed in natural slopes with a tilted stratification. This study investigates the rotated anisotropy effects on slope reliability considering spatially varied soils.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Random walk on the range of random walk [PDF]

open access: yes
We study the random walk X on the range of a simple random walk on ℤ d in dimensions d≥4. When d≥5 we establish quenched and annealed scaling limits for the process X, which show that the intersections of the original simple random walk path are ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.
