Random-Field Blume-Capel Model: Mean-Field Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The global phase diagram of the Blume-Capel model in a random field obeying the bimodal symmetric distribution is determined by using the mean-field method.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Reference fields analysis of a Markov random field model to improve image segmentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In Markov random field (MRF) models, parameters such as internal and external reference fields are used. In this paper, the influence of these parameters in the segmentation quality is analyzed, and it is shown that, for image segmentation, a MRF model ...

Characteristic polynomials of complex random matrix models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We calculate the expectation value of an arbitrary product of characteristic polynomials of complex random matrices and their hermitian conjugates. Using the technique of orthogonal polynomials in the complex plane our result can be written in terms of

Multinomial Randomness Models for Retrieval with Document Fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Document fields, such as the title or the headings of a document, offer a way to consider the structure of documents for retrieval. Most of the proposed approaches in the literature employ either a linear combination of scores assigned to different fields, or a linear combination of frequencies in the term frequency normalisation component.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Adaptive Gaussian Markov Random Fields with Applications in Human Brain Mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has become the standard technology in human brain mapping. Analyses of the massive spatio-temporal fMRI data sets often focus on parametric or nonparametric modeling of the temporal component, while spatial ...

The Effect of the Selection of Three-Dimensional Random Numerical Soil Models on Strip Foundation Settlements

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
This paper delivers a probabilistic attempt to prove that the selection of a random three-dimensional finite element (FE) model of a subsoil affects the computed settlements.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
