Current Biology, 2000 Abstract Ran is a very unusual GTPase. Unlike all other known members of the Ras superfamily of small GTP-binding proteins, Ran is not post-translationally modified. Moreover, its function depends critically on a spatial gradient of the GTP-bound form of Ran.
