Rapid Detection of Candidemia

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1973
The Sterifil lysis-filtration (SLF) blood culture technic was compared with a standard trypticase soy broth (TSB) procedure for the detection of candidemia. Of a total of 3,554 blood cultures run in parallel, 29 Candida isolates were obtained with the SLF technic, whereas only 17 were recovered with the TSB method, a statistically significant ...

Rapid coliphage detection assay

Journal of Virological Methods, 2001
A rapid coliphage detection assay was developed, based on the phage-induced release of beta-galactosidase from cells of Escherichia coli. The assay could detect as few as five coliphage per sample without an overnight incubation period. The range of acceptable assay parameters was identified.

Rapid detection protocol for filoviruses

Journal of Clinical Virology, 2004
The incidence of filovirus disease outbreaks has been increasing in recent years. Although there have been advances in the developments of diagnostics, field tests are rare. Apart from family members of infected patients, health care workers are at high risk of being infected during the initial phase of an outbreak.

Rod Photoreceptors Detect Rapid Flicker

Science, 1977
It is widely believed that human rods cannot detect rapid flicker. With rod-isolation techniques, however, light-adapted rods detect flicker frequencies as high as 28 hertz, and the function relating rod critical flicker frequency to stimulus intensity contains two distinct branches. Human rod vision may, therefore, depend on two independent mechanisms.

Rapid detection of threshold VEPs

Clinical Neurophysiology, 2003
To determine whether a one-dimensional (1D) Laplacian analysis detects steady-state visual evoked potentials (ssVEPs) faster than the standard O(z)-F(z) montage and to establish the optimum position of Laplacian reference electrodes.Twenty-two normal adults were shown reversing checks ranging from 1.5' to 60'. Three electrode montages were investigated:

Rapid Detection of Mycoplasma Antibody

The Journal of Immunology, 1976
Abstract Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a significant nonviral cause of acute respiratory disease in children and young adults. The clinical expression of mycoplasmal respiratory tract infection ranges from minor upper respiratory symptoms to acute bronchitis and atypical pneumonia.

Rapid DNA detection by beacon-assisted detection amplification

Nature Protocols, 2011
This protocol describes a new and rapid isothermal reaction process designed to amplify and detect a specific DNA sequence in purified DNA extracted from cultured cells. The protocol uses a DNA nanomachine that comprises two molecular switches that function in concert to isothermally amplify and detect a DNA target.
