Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Rapid Intensification and Relative Sea‐Level Rise Amplify Compound Flooding From Hurricanes Harvey and Beryl

open access: yesEarth's Future
Rapid intensification (RI) of hurricanes and relative sea‐level rise (RSLR, the combined effect of global sea‐level rise and regional land subsidence) exacerbate compound flood risks by increasing the likelihood of coinciding surge and rainfall extremes.

Rapid Intensification of Tropical Cyclones Observed by AMSU Satellites

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
AbstractThis study examines the vertical structures of temperature and convection associated with rapid intensification of tropical cyclones using collocated Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU) and HURSAT‐B1 satellite observations for 2003–2015.

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Large Eddy Simulation of an Entire Tropical Cyclone From Initial Vortex to Maturity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
We simulated a tropical cyclone in an idealized environment, from its weak initial vortex to maturity, using a regional numerical weather prediction model with a uniform horizontal resolution of 100 m, regarded as a large eddy simulation (LES).

Liquid biopsy‐based diagnostic evaluation of hypermethylated CpG sites for ovarian cancer diagnosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This schematic outlines the workflow from biomarker identification to duplex MethyLight assay validation for epithelial ovarian cancer diagnosis using cfDNA‐based liquid biopsy. Initial screening of hypermethylated CpG candidates (cg02957270, cg10061138 cg00480298, COL2A1) was performed in tissue using ARMS‐PCR, COBRA, qPCR and image analysis. Selected

Amplified Bimodal Distribution of Western North Pacific Tropical Cyclone Lifetime Maximum Intensity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The impact of a warming climate on tropical cyclones (TCs) remains unclear. Here, we find that the probability density function for western North Pacific TC lifetime maximum intensity (LMI) has an amplified bimodal distribution in recent years.

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).
