A Biologically‐Architected Wear and Damage‐Resistant Nanoparticle Coating From the Radular Teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 20, 9 March 2026.
The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.

Multiomic characterization of small cell lung cancer: Real‐world insights into therapeutic opportunities

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 5, 1 March 2026.
NK, natural killer; STING, Stimulator of Interferon Genes; TCI, T‐cell inflamed. Abstract Background The dominant expression of lineage‐related transcription factors (TFs)—ASCL1, NEUROD1, POU2F3, and, controversially, YAP1—has enabled the classification of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) into distinct subtypes (SCLC‐A/N/P/Y, respectively).

Modeling species co‐occurrence effects to inform invasive barred owl management and recovery of the northern spotted owl

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 2, March 2026.
Abstract Robust estimation of wildlife populations represents a cornerstone of wildlife research and provides critical information to guide management, including identifying at‐risk species, setting harvest rates, and evaluating predator and invasive species control programs.

Disentangling the effects of multifunctional forestry practices on the abundances of birds and their invertebrate prey

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 2, March 2026.
Abstract European forests are increasingly managed to harmonize production goals with biodiversity conservation, through practices such as retention and close‐to‐nature forestry. Forest birds may benefit from these practices, but it remains unclear how the effects of different management practices compare, and whether responses to management are driven
