Fluorine-directed 1,2-trans glycosylation of rare sugars

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2016
To reconcile the urgent need to access well defined β-configured 2,6-di-deoxypyranose analogues for chemical biology, with the intrinsic α-selectivity of the native system, the directing role of fluorine at C2 has been explored.

Bioproduction strategies for rare hexose sugars

Naturwissenschaften, 2002
A new strategy for the bioproduction of all ketohexoses was developed using hexitols as intermediates. Biocatalysts used to employ the strategy were D-tagatose 3-epimerase, which epimerizes ketohexoses at the C-3 position, and oxidoreductases, which catalyze oxidation-reduction reactions between ketohexoses and the corresponding hexitols. Arranging all

The Synthesis of Rare Sugars

Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English, 1969
AbstractThe use of new oxidation reagents, such as the Pfitzner‐Moffatt reagent, dimethyl sulfoxide‐acid anhydrides, and ruthenium tetroxide, has significantly improved the yields obtained on oxidation of a secondary hydroxyl group to a carbonyl group in suitably protected sugars.

Rare Sugars: Applications and Enzymatic Production

Journal of Biocatalysis & Biotransformation, 2012
Rare Sugars: Applications and Enzymatic Production Rare sugars are monosaccharides and their derivatives rarely existing in nature. Of all hexoses and pentoses, only seven (D-glucose, D-galactose, D-mannose, D-fructose, D-xylose, D-ribose and L-arabinose) are present in significant amounts in nature.

Adoligoses, Oligosaccharides of Rare Sugars from Adonis aleppica

Journal of Natural Products, 1995
Five novel tri-, tetra-, and penta-saccharides named adoligoses A-E [1-5], consisting of rare didesoxy sugars and their 3-O-Me ethers, have been isolated from Adonis aleppica. Their structures were determined by dcims and nmr measurements. Full establishment of the proton spin-systems was based on 2D nmr data, spectral simulation procedures, and force ...

Catalytic oxidation of rare sugars over gold catalysts

Catal. Sci. Technol., 2013
This minireview presents an overview on the recent developments for the heterogeneous catalytic aerobic oxidation of rare sugars over supported gold catalysts. The selective oxidation of several rare sugars; L-arabinose, D-galactose and D-lactose representing pentoses, hexoses and disaccharides, respectively, is reviewed. The critical evaluation of the

3,6-Anhydro-l-galactose, a rare sugar from agar, a new anticariogenic sugar to replace xylitol

Food Chemistry, 2017
The significance for anticariogenic sugar substitutes is growing due to increasing demands for dietary sugars and rising concerns of dental caries. Xylitol is widely used as an anticariogenic sugar substitute, but the inhibitory effects of xylitol on Streptococcus mutans, the main cause of tooth decay, are exhibited only at high concentrations.
