Analysis of kinetic models and macroscopic continuum equations for rarefied gas dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The Boltzmann equation is the basic equation to describe rarefied gas flows. Some kinetic models with simple expressions for the collision term have been proposed to reduce the mathematical complexity of the Boltzmann equation.

Catalytically Enhanced Near Room‐Temperature Hydrogen Sensing Using Pd‐ZnO Colloidal Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pd‐decorated ZnO colloidal crystal monolayers demonstrate excellent performance across a wide hydrogen concentration range at 33°C, with high selectivity and reproducible device fabrication. The sensors show strong responses even at low‐ppm H2 concentrations and an ultra‐low detection limit of 82 ppb, indicating their suitability for diverse hydrogen ...

A Cross-Regime Coupling Method for Conjugate Heat Transfer in Microscale Systems

open access: yesAerospace
In this work, a partitioned coupling algorithm is developed by integrating the improved discrete velocity method (IDVM) with the lattice Boltzmann flux solver (LBFS) to address conjugate heat transfer (CHT) in microscale systems across all flow regimes ...

Simultaneous Enhancement of Performance and Stability in Dual‐Gate a‐IGZO Thin‐Film Transistors via Single‐Step Laser Annealing for Capacitor‐Less DRAM

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A single‐step laser annealing strategy is presented for dual‐gate a‐IGZO TFTs. The steep thermal gradient induces graded oxygen doping in the channel and simultaneous WOx removal at the contacts, enabling concurrent interface and contact engineering.

A Modular Liver–Microbial Microfluidic Platform to Evaluate Therapeutic and Adverse Effects of Microbial Metabolites

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a modular microfluidic platform that connects liver cells with live microbes to mimic key aspects of the gut–liver interaction in steatosis. Using this system, both microbial metabolites and live bacteria significantly reduced fat accumulation in liver cells, but live microbes triggered inflammation and broader metabolic changes ...

A Novel Perfused Full‐Thickness Human Skin Microphysiological System for Modeling Injury, Regeneration, Tumor Pathophysiology, and Therapeutics Development

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
What if human skin could remain fully alive and functional outside the body for weeks? A New Alternative Method (NAM) based on a vascularized full‐thickness skin microphysiological system achieves precisely this, preserving native vasculature, resident immunity, and metabolic activity for up to three weeks, while faithfully recapitulating radiation ...
