Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Construction and Testing of a Rarefied Gas Flow Facility [PDF]
A low-density gasdynamic facility, suitable for measurement of mass flow through small (approximately 1 mm diameter) nozzles, tubes, and orifices, was designed and constructed. The system is capable of producing and measuring mass flows at 100:1 upstream/

Editorial: Rarefied Gas Flows—From Micro–Nano Scale to the Hypersonic Regime
Rarefied gas dynamics spans a wide spectrum of applications: micro–nano devices where the mean free path becomes comparable to characteristic lengths, vacuum and porous systems where Knudsen diffusion emerges, and high-speed (including hypersonic) flows ...

Rarefied Flow Simulation of Conical Intake and Plasma Thruster for Very Low Earth Orbit Spaceflight
Air-breathing electric propulsion has the potential to enable space missions at very low altitudes. This study introduces to a 0D hybrid formulation for describing the coupled intake and thruster physics of an air-breathing electric propulsion prototype.

Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Validation of a hybrid grid scheme of DSMC in simulating three-dimensional rarefied gas flows [PDF]
A hybrid grid scheme is employed in a new version of position element algorithm of the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. The computational domain is divided into uniform rectangular grids to track molecular trajectories efficiently, whereas ...

Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...
