Patents as Green Signals: Capital Market Responses to Corporate Green Innovation in Carbon‐ and Energy‐Intensive Firms

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adopting a signaling perspective, this study examines whether corporate green patenting reduces the cost of equity by mitigating information asymmetry in capital markets. Using longitudinal panel data from South Korea, we find that green patenting—encapsulating technological innovation related to energy, environmental protection, and climate ...

The microstructure and texture effects on fatigue behavior of AZ31B magnesium induced by pre-strain along radial direction

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this study, compressional pre-strain was conducted on fatigue samples extracted from the AZ31B rod along the radial direction (RD), leading to the alteration of microstructure and texture, of which the impact on ratcheting behavior and fatigue life ...

Conceptualizing Corporate Political Activity for Sustainability Governance—The CPA Cube

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sustainability transformations in the economy, and related public policy decisions, are highly contested, attracting business involvement. To better understand how business influence on government impacts the success or failure of sustainability governance efforts, this paper extends the literature on corporate political activity (CPA) by ...

Photoreversible Polyurea Actuators With Spatiotemporal Control and Adaptive Mechanics

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A light–thermal responsive polyurea network incorporating reversibly dimerizable anthracene units enables spatiotemporal modulation of cross‐linking density and nearly 400‐fold stiffness tuning. Integrating programmable anisotropy, photopatterning, self‐healing, and photowelding within a single framework, this bioinspired “one network–multifunction ...

Ratchet nanofiltration of DNA [PDF]

open access: yesLab on a Chip, 2013
The DNA nanofilter is a microfabricated electrophoretic separation device consisting of a periodic array of thin slits (circa 60 nm) separated by deeper wells (circa 320 nm). We demonstrate that this device can act as a tuneable, clog-free filter when operating in a low frequency, asymmetric field inversion mode.

Absence seizures: Update on signaling mechanisms and networks

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Absence seizures (AS) are a hallmark of genetic generalized epilepsies (GGE), characterized by brief episodes of impaired consciousness accompanied by electroencephalographic spike‐and‐wave discharges (SWDs). Traditionally attributed to cortico‐thalamo‐cortical (CTC) dysrhythmia, emerging evidence suggests a more intricate pathophysiological ...

Effect of Microstructure on Fatigue Damage Accumulation in 7075 Aluminum Alloy Subjected to a Single Compressive Overload

open access: yesMetals
7075 aluminum alloy has been widely used because of its excellent mechanical properties. The fatigue crack acceleration induced by compressive overloading is detrimental to 7075 aluminum alloy in service, and the corresponding mechanisms are complex.

Climate Driven Water Table Changes and Their Influence on Liquefaction Response of Integral Bridges

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Integral abutment bridges (IABs) eliminate bearings and joints but transfer seismic demand directly into the surrounding soil, making their response highly sensitive to groundwater conditions and soil–structure interaction. This study presents a 60 g centrifuge testing programme on single‐span IABs designed to isolate the influence of water ...

Myosin's mechanical ratchet [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2006
Myosin molecular motors bind to and exert force upon actin filaments. Between 24 (1) and 37 (2) myosin subfamilies are currently recognized (3), the myriad members of which are specialized for tasks ranging from muscle contraction through to mechano-sensation and signaling, cell polarization, the sliding and tensioning of cytoskeletal elements ...

Use of ultrasonography in assessing peri‐implant osseous defects: An in vitro study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The purpose of this study is to investigate the feasibility and diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography in peri‐implant defect identification and evaluation, and to compare ultrasonography (USG) with cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT) in defect identification and evaluation in an in vitro model.
