Binary Social Mimic Optimization Algorithm With X-Shaped Transfer Function for Feature Selection

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Definitive optimization algorithms are not able to solve high dimensional optimization problems when the search space grows exponentially with the problem size, and an exhaustive search also becomes impractical. To encounter this problem, researchers use

Discontinuous Galerkin approximations in computational mechanics: hybridization, exact geometry and degree adaptivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretizations with exact representation of the geometry and local polynomial degree adaptivity are revisited. Hybridization techniques are employed to reduce the computational cost of DG approximations and devise the ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Accurate Approximation of ZF Massive MIMO Channel Rate With a Finite Antenna Over Ricean Fading Channel

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
In a typical downlink massive multiple-input and multiple-output (massive MIMO) system, the available degree of freedom (DoF) and multiplexing gain improve the channel rate.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Cooperation driven by mutations in multi-person Prisoner's Dilemma

open access: yes, 2004
The n-person Prisoner's Dilemma is a widely used model for populations where individuals interact in groups. The evolutionary stability of populations has been analysed in the literature for the case where mutations in the population may be considered as

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

On the improved convergence of lifted distributional Gauss curvature from Regge elements

open access: yesResults in Applied Mathematics
Although Regge finite element functions are not continuous, useful generalizations of nonlinear derivatives like the curvature, can be defined using them.
