Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

A Study on the Direct Optimization of a Rational Function Model for High-Resolution Satellite Images

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Due to the influence of factors such as satellite jitters, orbital errors, star sensor errors, and satellite clock errors, significant geometric systematic errors often exist among multi-view satellite images.

Identification of Nonlinear Systems Using the Hammerstein-Wiener Model with Improved Orthogonal Functions

open access: yesElektronika ir Elektrotechnika, 2023
Hammerstein-Wiener systems present a structure consisting of three serial cascade blocks. Two are static nonlinearities, which can be described with nonlinear functions.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

A Note on Equivalent and Nonequivalent Parametrizations of the Two-Parameter Logistic Item Response Model

open access: yesInformation
The two-parameter logistic (2PL) item response model is typically estimated using an unbounded distribution for the trait θ. In this article, alternative specifications of the 2PL models are investigated that consider a bounded or a positively valued θ ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

A Note on Forecasting the Rate of Change of the Price of Oil: Asymmetric Loss and Forecast Rationality

open access: yesEconomies, 2013
We study whether forecasts of the rate of change of the price of oil are rational. To this end, we consider a model that allows the shape of forecasters’ loss function to be studied.

Methods for the Epipolarity Analysis of Pushbroom Satellite Images Based on the Rational Function Model

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Epipolarity is the foundation of epipolar resampling, which is used to eliminate the vertical disparity between stereo pairs in stereo matching. To analyze the epipolarity of pushbroom satellite images, this paper compares three methods based on the ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Structured Low-rank Approximation as a Rational Function Minimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Many problems of system identification, model reduction and signal processing can be posed and solved as a structured low-rank approximation problem (SLRA).
