Rational intuition and understanding
Philosophical Studies, 2011Rational intuitions involve a particular form of understanding that gives them a special epistemic status. This form of understanding and its epistemic efficacy are not explained by several current theories of rational intuition, including Phenomenal Conservatism (Huemer, Skepticism and the veil of perception, 2001; Ethical intuitionism, 2005; Philos ...

Intuition, Inference, and Rational Disagreement in Ethics
Ethical Theory and Moral Practice, 2008This paper defends a moderate intuitionism by extending a version of that view previously put forward and responding to some significant objections to it that have been posed in recent years. The notion of intuition is clarified, and various kinds of intuition are distinguished and interconnected.

Intuition and Professional Competence: Intuitive Versus Rational Forecasting of the Stock Market [PDF]
This article argues that intuition is a crucial component of professional competence, and provides empirical evidence to support this claim. It was found that in most cases intuitive predictions of stock market development are better than rationally justified ones and that experts predict more precisely than novices on a descriptive data level.

Rational Versus Intuitive Processing
Journal of Media Psychology, 2019Abstract. This study explored two main theoretical propositions. First, we tested Hartmann’s (2011 , 2012 ) notion that video games are processed via two separate cognitive systems: System 1, the automatic system, and System 2, the rational system. Specifically, we used a cognitive load manipulation to test if intuitive moral responses such as guilt ...

Blending Rationality and Intuition
New Directions for Evaluation, 2018AbstractJody Fitzpatrick gives examples of her father's influence on her learning to be rational and her mother's examples of emotion and intuition. Jody has found ways to include both values in her personal life, with greater emphasis on the rational search for evidence in her professional work both as a professor and as an evaluator.

Combining Intuition and Rationality
New Directions for Evaluation, 2018AbstractMarthe Hurteau notes how she has tried to combine good aspects of her mother's nonprofessional intuition approach to evaluation with her father's evidence‐based and rational criminal judge evaluation approach. She finds that when she can do the best of both, her personal and professional evaluations are better.

Quantum probability, intuition, and human rationality
Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 2013AbstractThis comment suggests that Pothos & Busmeyer (P&B) do not provide an intuitive rational foundation for quantum probability (QP) theory to parallel standard logic and classical probability (CP) theory. In particular, the intuitive foundation for standard logic, which underpins CP, is the elimination of contradictions – that is ...
