Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

A rational optimal block hybrid method for enhanced accuracy in solving Lane–Emden equations

open access: yesPartial Differential Equations in Applied Mathematics
This paper introduces a block hybrid method designed for the effective resolution of Lane–Emden equations, which are characterized as second-order boundary value problems incorporating a singularity at the origin.

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

A few examples of points of finite order on some smooth plane cubics

open access: yesAtti della Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti : Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali, 2017
In this expository article we give a self-contained presentation on the rational points of finite order on smooth cubics. We mainly construct examples of points of order between four and twelve, except the eleven case of course.

Rational points on X_0^+ (p^r)

open access: yes, 2011
We show how the recent isogeny bounds due to É. Gaudron and G. Rémond allow to obtain the triviality of X_0^+ (p^r)(Q), for r>1 and p a prime exceeding 2.10^{11}. This includes the case of the curves X_split (p). We then prove, with the help of computer calculations, that the same holds true for p in the range 10 < p < 10^{14}, p\neq 13.

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

The number of rational points of some classes of algebraic varieties over finite fields

open access: yesOpen Mathematics
Let Fq{{\mathbb{F}}}_{q} be the finite field of characteristic pp and Fq*=Fq\{0}{{\mathbb{F}}}_{q}^{* }\left={{\mathbb{F}}}_{q}\backslash \left\{0\right\}.

Tori and surfaces violating a local-to-global principle for rationality

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique
We show that even within a class of varieties where the Brauer–Manin obstruction is the only obstruction to the local-to-global principle for the existence of rational points (Hasse principle), this obstruction, even in a stronger, base change invariant ...

Impact of Asymptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage on Outcome After Endovascular Stroke Treatment

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Endovascular treatment (EVT) achieves high rates of recanalization in acute large‐vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke, but functional recovery remains heterogeneous. While symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) has been well studied, the prognostic impact of asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (aICH) after EVT is less certain ...
