SUMMARY Avridine is a potent synthetic adjuvant that can induce arthritis in most rat strains. The clinical appearance and histopathology of avridine-induced arthritis show great similarity to other arthritis models such as collagen ...

We use experimental evolution to test the effects of demographic and evolutionary rescue in populations of Tribolium castaneum previously adapted to high temperature and kept at small population sizes. We find no evidence of rescue in these populations and discuss the results in the context of conservation intervention.

Effects of physical exercise and social isolation on anxiety-related behaviors in two inbred rat strains [PDF]
We investigated the effects of physical exercise (PE) on locomotor activity and anxiety-like behavior in Lewis (LEW) and Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats (SHR) male rats.

The origin, connectivity, and individual specialization of island wolves after deer extirpation
We applied DNA metabarcoding and SNP genotyping to quantify variation in marine foraging behavior within wolf packs, among sexes, and individuals using 957 scats collected from an island and the adjacent mainland from 2016 to 2022. Island wolves consistently consumed sea otters while mainland wolves fed mainly on ungulates and voles with more variation

Mapping a Gene Responsible for Natural Resistance to Rift Valley Fever Virus in Inbred Rats [PDF]
The Rift Valley Fever virus (RVFV) presents an epidemic and epizootic threat in sub-Saharan Africa, Egypt, and the Arabian Peninsula, and has recently gained attention as a potential weapon of bioterrorism due to its ability to infect both livestock and ...

Abstract Species turnover with elevation is a widespread phenomenon and provides valuable information on why and how ecological communities might reorganize as the climate warms. It is commonly assumed that species interactions are more likely to set warm range limits, while physiological tolerances determine cold range limits.

Nervous system‐related tropism of SARS‐CoV‐2 and autoimmunity in COVID‐19 infection
This review summarizes the current knowledge regarding neurotropism and emerging immune responses in SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. There are direct and indirect effects on the nervous system by SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. Presently, vaccination against SARS‐CoV‐2 is the most effective way of preventing SARS‐CoV‐2 infection of the nervous system. Abstract The effects

We investigated the possibility that strain-dependent differences in the diurnal pattern of wheel running activity rhythms are also reflected in the melatonin profiles. The inbred rat strains ACI/Ztm, BH/Ztm, and LEW/Ztm.

Genetic influences on survival time after severe hemorrhage in inbred rat strains
To find a genetic basis for differential ability to survive severe hemorrhage, we previously showed eightfold differences in survival times among inbred rat strains. We assumed that rat strains had similar normalized blood volumes (NBV; ml/100 g body wt).
