Nonlinear Earthquake Response Analysis Using Causal Hysteretic Damping and Extended Rayleigh Damping
Abstract In dynamic design, damping considerably influences the response of structures, so it must be set appropriately. Stiffness-proportional damping is generally used as an inherent damping model, but this model tends to overestimate the damping of higher-order modes. Certain models can evaluate the damping of higher-order modes, such

A Comparison of Ground Motion Intensity Measures for Estimating Collapse
This study examines the use of 15 different intensity measures (IMs) for estimating structural collapse using results from incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). IDA results from 54 numerical models were considered, including (i) 12 reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures, (ii) 16 RC wall–frame structures and (iii) 26 steel buckling‐restrained braced ...

Rayleigh Damping Coefficients of Laminated Rubber Bearing
In isolating the ground structure and the above ground structure from seismic loads, a significant device called laminated rubber bearing is usually found in structure. The complexity of the material which is made up from a combination of rubber and steel shim plates in alternate layer, has made it difficult to measure damping value.

This study investigates the impact of uncertain parameters on Navier–Stokes equations coupled with heat transfer using the Intrusive Polynomial Chaos Method (IPCM). Sensitivity equations are formulated for key input parameters, such as viscosity and thermal diffusivity, and solved numerically using the Finite Element‐Volume method.

Reduced-Order Modeling of Diffusive Effects on the Dynamics of Bubbles [PDF]
The Rayleigh-Plesset equation and its extensions have been used extensively to model spherical bubble dynamics, yet radial diffusion equations must be solved to correctly capture damping effects due to mass and thermal diffusion.

High‐level ab initio and density functional theory calculations reveal a structural and spectroscopic transition from pla nar Cu6 to three‐dimensional Pd6, whose lowest energy triplet state undergoes a Jahn‐Teller distortion. This evolution from molecule‐like to metal‐like bonding produces distinct infrared and Raman fingerprints, providing reliable ...

Calculating dispersion relations for waveguide immersed in perfect fluid
Conventional finite element method (FEM) is capable of obtaining wave solutions, but large discretized structures at high frequency require high computational resources, the computational domain can be reduced by combining FEM with analytical assumption ...

Hunga‐Tonga Volcano Plumbing System Inferred From Virtual Seismometer Approach
Abstract We present a surface wave tomography application based on event‐pair interferometry to investigate local (∼100 km) mid‐ocean crustal structures, with a particular focus on imaging a potential crustal solidified intrusive complex in a region lacking seismic stations.

Taking into Account Material Damping in Seismic Analysis of Structures
The purpose of this paper is to justify that it is necessary to take into account physical and mechanical properties of soil and different materials of erected structures for damping vibrations in dynamic loads, and to suggest tools for modelling the ...

RESEARCH ON THE DIRECTIVITY RESPONSE OF THE SPHERICAL PENDULUM SEISMOGRAPH
To solve the problem that the Houfeng Seismograph’s directional function’s historical record was generally questioned. The analysis concludes that the spherical pendulum seismic measurement scheme may be a feasible restoration scheme with Rayleigh wave ...
