Characterization and synthesis of Rayleigh damped elastodynamic networks

open access: yesNetworks & Heterogeneous Media, 2014
We consider damped elastodynamic networks where the damping matrix is assumed to be a non-negative linear combination of the stiffness and mass matrices (also known as Rayleigh or proportional damping). We give here a characterization of the frequency response of such networks.

Computation of Rayleigh Damping Coefficients for the Seismic Analysis of a Hydro-Powerhouse

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2017
The mass and stiffness of the upper and lower structures of a powerhouse are different. As such, the first two vibration modes mostly indicate the dynamic characteristics of the upper structure, and the precise seismic response of a powerhouse is ...

Influence of the upper gravity-wave damping layer on precipitation over complex terrain

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
The upper boundary condition of a numerical model can significantly influence the model prediction results. This study used the Weather Research and Forecasting model to introduce the Rayleigh damping layer in the complex terrain of southern Gansu, China.

Numerical Simulation of the Infinite Medium of Dry Soil in Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction Problems [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2013
One of the major issues in the dynamic analysis of soil-structure interaction problems is to model the far field medium. The dynamic analysis of soil-structure interaction problems can be carried out by using a numerical solution procedure such as finite

RIGID AND NON-RIGID KINEMATIC EXCITATION FOR MULTIPLY-SUPPORTED SYSTEM: ONCE MORE ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTION OF DAMPING TO THE DYNAMIC LOADS IN SEISMIC ANALYSIS

open access: yesInternational Journal for Computational Civil and Structural Engineering, 2018
Development of linear equations of motion for seismic analysis is discussed in the paper. The paper continues the discussion: the author does not agree with colleagues putting damping matrix into the right-hand part of the equation of motion describing ...

Phase Engineering of Atomically Precise Nanoclusters (APNCs) of Gold and Beyond

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Engineering the structural phase of materials is of paramount importance for both fundamental research and practical applications. In this Review, we summarize the recent progress in controlling the phases of atomically precise nanoclusters (APNCs) of gold, silver and copper, as well as bimetallic systems. The phase‐enabled material properties of APNCs

NON-RIGID KINEMATIC EXCITATION FOR MULTIPLY-SUPPORTED SYSTEM WITH HOMOGENEOUS DAMPING

open access: yesInternational Journal for Computational Civil and Structural Engineering, 2018
This paper continues the discussion of linear equations of motion. The author considers non-rigid kinematic excitation for multiply-supported system leading to the deformations in quasi-static response. It turns out that in the equation of motion written
