The Effects of Combining Cancer Drugs with Compounds Isolated from Combretum zeyheri Sond. and Combretum platypetalum Welw. ex M.A. Lawson (Combretaceae) on the Viability of Jurkat T Cells and HL‐60 Cells [PDF]

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Combretum zeyheri and Combretum platypetalum have been shown to have anticancer, antibacterial, antituberculosis, and antifungal effects in both in vivo and in vitro studies. This study sought to evaluate the antiproliferative effects of compounds isolated from C. zeyheri and C.

Postradiation Fractures after Combined Modality Treatment in Extremity Soft Tissue Sarcomas [PDF]

open access: yesSarcoma, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) of the extremities is typically treated with limb‐sparing surgery and radiation therapy; with this treatment approach, high local control rates can be achieved. However, postradiation bone fractures, fractures occurring in the prior radiation field with minimal or no trauma, are a serious late complication that occurs in 2–22%

Reduction of daunomycin toxicity by razoxane [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Cancer, 1981
A single dose of 200 mg/kg razoxane protected mice against the subchronic lethal effects (i.e. within 21 days) of 10 mg/kg daunomycin. When the razoxane dose was split into 2 doses of 100 mg/kg, even better protection against higher doses of daunomycin was obtained.

Rapid stromal remodeling by short‐term VEGFR2 inhibition increases chemotherapy delivery in esophagogastric adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 704-720, April 2020., 2020
Anti‐angiogenic therapies are combined with chemotherapy to treat cancers. Here, we reveal that therapy efficacy is greatly improved through previously unrecognized effects of VEGFR2 inhibition on tumor stroma in esophagogastric adenocarcinoma. Short‐term VEGFR2 inhibition results in activated fibroblasts that express FGF2 and hyaluronidase‐2, which ...

The Radiation Response of Sarcomas by Histologic Subtypes: A Review With Special Emphasis Given to Results Achieved With Razoxane [PDF]

open access: yesSarcoma, Volume 2006, Issue 1, 2006., 2006
Purpose. Relatively few results are available in the literature about the radiation response of unresectable sarcomas in relation to their histology. Therefore, an attempt was made to summarize the present situation. Materials and methods. This report is based on a review of the literature and the author′s own experience.

Razoxane and Dexrazoxane - Two Multifunctional Agents

open access: yes, 2011
Razoxane and dexrazoxane are two novel drugs with some uniquely useful features. They block cell division at the G2/M border, but nowhere else, so that they have a low toxicity profile.

Interaction of razoxane and radiation on cultured Chinese hamster cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1981
Razoxane [(+/-)-1,2-bis(3,5-dioxopiperazine-1-yl)propane] was investigated for its effects on the survival of irradiated Chinese hamster fibroblasts in vitro. Razoxane alone produced cytotoxicity that was dependent upon drug concentration and pulse exposure time, with a preferential lethality for cells treated while in the DNA-synthetic phase. Razoxane
