A Theoretical Study on a Reaction of Iron(III) Hydroxide with Boron Trichloride by Ab Initio Calculation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate a reaction of boron trichloride (BCl3) with iron(III) hydroxide (Fe(OH)3) by ab initio quantum chemical calculation as a simple model for a reaction of iron impurities in BCl3 gas. We also examine a reaction with water.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Computational Understanding of the Selectivities in Metalloenzymes

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2018
Metalloenzymes catalyze many different types of biological reactions with high efficiency and remarkable selectivity. The quantum chemical cluster approach and the combined quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics methods have proven very successful in the ...

Mechanism of $K^- p \to \eta\Lambda$ reaction near threshold

open access: yes, 2012
Within an effective Lagrangian approach, we investigate the reaction mechanism of $K^- p\to \eta\Lambda$ near threshold. It is found that a new $D_{03}$ resonance, with mass $M=1668.5\pm 0.5$MeV and width $\Gamma=1.5\pm0.5$MeV, is needed to interpret the

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Curing Kinetics and Mechanism Research of E44/T31 Insulation Paint

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2019
Epoxy resin insulation paint was prepared with epoxy resin (E44) as binder and with proper inorganic fillers and curing agent (T31) as additives. The isothermal curing reaction process of paint was studied by the differential scanning calorimetry method (

Mechanisms of flavoprotein‐catalyzed reactions [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1989
Flavoproteins are a class of enzymes catalyzing a very broad spectrum of redox processes by different chemical mechanisms. This review describes the best studied of these mechanisms and discusses factors possibly governing reactivity and specificity.

Unraveling the mechanism of the manganese-salen epoxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Chiral salen-type complexes are valuable catalysts for the antioselective epoxidation of unfunctionlized olefins. The mechanism of this reaction with the manganese-salen complex has always been the subject of an intense debate [1, 2].

Artificial photosynthetic reaction centers coupled to light-harvesting antennas

open access: yes, 2010
We analyze a theoretical model for energy and electron transfer in an artificial photosynthetic system. The photosystem consists of a molecular triad (i.e., with a donor, a photosensitive unit, and an acceptor) coupled to four accessory light-harvesting ...
