3D Printed Omniphobic Slippery Liquid Infused Porous Surfaces for Low Surface Tension Repellency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A 3D printing strategy fabricates omniphobic slippery liquid‐infused porous structures with lubricant reservoirs and interconnected microchannels. A post‐printing surface treatment modifies the porous surface to ensure compatibility with the infused fluorinated lubricant.

Bamboo Medical Application: A State‐of‐the‐Art Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review presents a structured classification of bamboo's current use in healthcare. It organizes applications into medical textiles and medical devices, with further divisions based on function and level of invasiveness. It also examines material utilization based on bamboo's structural role, highlighting how it supports both protective and ...

Soft Robotic Excretory Care Simulator for Nursing Education: Functional and Perceptual Biomimetics Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A soft robotic simulator is developed to replicate the digital removal of feces (DRF), a sensitive yet essential nursing procedure. Integrating soft actuators, sensors, and a realistic rectal model, the simulator balances functional fidelity with perceptual realism. Engineering evaluations and nurse feedback confirm its potential to enhance training in

Corotating Twin-Screw Extrusion Reactive Extrusion-Devolatilization Model and Software

Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering, 2006
The modular corotating twin-screw extruder is an increasingly widely used polymer processing machine. This paper describes analyses of reactive extrusion and devolatilization in a modular corotating twin-screw extruder. The results of the analyses are intergrated into a comprehensive model and computer software for the modular corotating twin-screw ...

Reactive Extrusion of Styrene Polymers

International Polymer Processing, 1993
Abstract Reactive extrusion is the term used to denote a plastics processing method in which an extruder is used as a reactor for the continuous synthesis and modification of polymers. This paper describes the manufacture of polystyrene and styreneisoprene copolymers by a reactive extrusion process: anionic “living” s-butyl lithium ...

Esterification in reactive extrusion

Polymer Engineering & Science, 1995
AbstractA condensation type reaction has been studied for reactive extrusion in a twin‐screw extruder. The esterification reaction is to graft a nonylphenyl‐ethoxylate (NP8) onto a pre‐maleated ethylene‐propylene (EPRMA). The kinetics were initially characterized in the static mixture using a thermally controlled call in a FTIR spectrometer. These were

Reactive Extrusion:  Toward Nanoblends

Macromolecules, 1999
By nanoblends, it is meant that the scale of dispersion of one polymer phase in the other is below 100 nm. A novel method was developed to prepare nanostructured blends (nanoblends) of polypropylene (PP) and polyamide-6 (PA-6) directly in a screw extruder. It consisted of polymerizing a monomer of PA-6, e-caprolactam (e-CL), in the matrix of PP.

Reactive Extrusion of SAN/EPDM Blends

International Polymer Processing, 2004
Abstract The blending of styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) and three different types of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM) by reactive extrusion was studied and the free radical initiators: 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-(t-butylperoxy)hexane (Luperco 101 XL), 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-(t-butylperoxy)hexyne-3 (Luperco 130 XL), α,α′-di(t ...

Starch esterification by reactive extrusion

Industrial Crops and Products, 2000
The objectives of this study were to synthesize starch-fatty acid esters via a reactive extrusion process and to determine the effects of level and chain length of the anhydrides used on the physical properties of the extrudates. Starch esters were synthesized by extruding 70% amylose starch with fatty acid anhydrides and sodium hydroxide (catalyst) in
