Application of Machine Learning Tools for the Improvement of Reactive Extrusion Simulation [PDF]

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, 2020
The purpose of this paper is to combine a classical 1D twin-screw extrusion model with machine learning techniques to obtain accurate predictions of a complex system despite few data.

Starch esterification by reactive extrusion

Industrial Crops and Products, 2000
The objectives of this study were to synthesize starch-fatty acid esters via a reactive extrusion process and to determine the effects of level and chain length of the anhydrides used on the physical properties of the extrudates. Starch esters were synthesized by extruding 70% amylose starch with fatty acid anhydrides and sodium hydroxide (catalyst) in

Reactive Extrusion of Nonmigratory Active and Intelligent Packaging

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2023
The environmental and economic burden of food waste demands new preservation technologies to reduce the degradative actions of spoilage such as moisture, oxygen, and microorganisms. Direct food additives can help maintain product quality; however, the limited life span of these additives combined with consumer desire for "clean label" products has ...

Acrylated polyurethanes by reactive extrusion

Polymer Bulletin, 1994
A one-step acrylated polyurethanes prepolymers synthesis by reactive extrusion and bulk reaction is discussed. These oligomers are obtained by a simultaneous reaction of MDI, polycaprolactone and hydroxyethyl-acrylate. In order to obtain a high reaction conversion within the extruder, tin laurate catalyst was used at 90°C.

POLYLACTIC ACID MODIFIED BY REACTIVE EXTRUSION TECHNOLOGY

SGEM International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference EXPO Proceedings, 2023
In recent years there has been an increase in interest in biodegradable polymers. Biopolymers are upcoming competitors for the synthetic polymers with their profound attributes like eco-friendliness and biodegradability. They can be classified as natural biopolymers, chemically synthesized biopolymers, and microbial biopolymers. One of the most widely

Reactive extrusion of zein with glyoxal

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2009
AbstractCross‐linked zein has been produced using glyoxal (GLY) as the cross‐linking reagent via reactive extrusion for the first time in a twin screw extruder using dilute sodium hydroxide as catalyst. Tri(ethylene glycol) was used as a plasticizer for various items.

Reactive Extrusion:  Toward Nanoblends

Macromolecules, 1999
By nanoblends, it is meant that the scale of dispersion of one polymer phase in the other is below 100 nm. A novel method was developed to prepare nanostructured blends (nanoblends) of polypropylene (PP) and polyamide-6 (PA-6) directly in a screw extruder. It consisted of polymerizing a monomer of PA-6, e-caprolactam (e-CL), in the matrix of PP.

Nanocomposites Prepared by Reactive Extrusion: Effect of the Polymer Reactive Groups

Macromolecular Reaction Engineering, 2013
AbstractThe interest in the development of polymer nanocomposites by reactive extrusion has been growing in the past years. This work aims to investigate the effect of the polymer reactive groups on chemical reaction extension and consequently, on the morphology of the nanocomposites. For that, two polymers, polypropylene grafted with maleic anhydride (

Ram extrusion of reactive plastics

Russian Engineering Research, 2013
A system is proposed for the processing of highly filled thermosetting material. That system permits orientation of the fibrous filler over the length and cross section of the part. A wood-based thermosetting composite for the production of high-strength shaped components is also considered.
