Artificial Cell Catalysts for Biotransformation: Design Principles and Process Integration

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Artificial cell catalysts are emerging as programmable biocatalytic platforms for sustainable molecular conversion. By reconstituting enzymes and functional modules within synthetic compartments, they combine the selectivity of biological catalysis with the design flexibility of synthetic materials.

Scaffolding a Low‐Cost Experiential Bioreactor Module: Reducing Cognitive Load to Enhance Competency and Self‐Efficacy

open access: yesBiochemistry and Molecular Biology Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Low‐cost experiential modules are critical for democratizing biotechnology education, yet most undergraduates lack hands‐on experience with continuous‐culture bioreactor operations, which are fundamental to industrial bioprocessing. This study employed design‐based research across two iterative cycles (Fall 2024, n = 8; Fall 2025, n = 11) to ...

Metal nanostructure‐coupled label‐free localized surface plasmon resonance biosensors for rapid and sensitive disease diagnosis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
LSPR biosensing enables rapid, sensitive, and low‐sample‐volume detection of biomarkers, with broad applications in diagnosing cancer, infectious, and chronic diseases. Advances in nanostructure design, micro/nanofabrication, and microfluidic integration have expanded the potential of LSPR sensors in biomedical diagnostics.

Beyond antimicrobials: Ecological nano‐strategies for rebalancing dysbiotic oral microbial homeostasis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Oral microbial homeostasis, a dynamic host‐microbe balance, is vital in infectious diseases. Conventional antibiotics often disrupt this homeostasis, spurring interest in nanomaterials for oral microbial homeostasis rebalancing. This review outlines nanomaterial strategies across three ecological levels (population/community, ecosystem, and cross ...

Green Hydrogen for Public Transportation: Insights From an ABM and From Palma de Mallorca Case Study

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The development of green hydrogen (GH2) value chains is crucial for decarbonizing sectors such as transport and industry. Their emergence, however, requires coordination among diverse actors, technologies, and regulations, which traditional analytical approaches struggle to capture.

Low‐Carbon Energy Transition and Corporate Carbon Emissions: The Critical Role of Climate Change Mitigation Policies and Institutional Context

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the strategic efficacy of corporate low‐carbon energy transition, such as through nuclear energy adoption, as a response to decarbonization pressures. Analyzing an international sample of energy firms, we demonstrate that the relationship between this form of transition and emission reductions is not technologically ...

Bismuth‐Based Semiconductors in Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction: Catalysts, Progress, and Future Perspectives

open access: yesCarbon and Hydrogen, EarlyView.
This review systematically summarizes research progress on bismuth‐based semiconductor photocatalytic materials in the field of CO2 reduction. It focuses on elucidating the mechanisms by which four modification strategies—including heteroatom doping, oxygen vacancy engineering, microstructural control, and heterostructure fabrication—regulate band ...

The closed core reactor

Electrical Engineering, 1951
This paper indicates the value of a closed iron core reactor as a source of fundamental reactive kilovolt-amperes. The saturation of the core provides a sharp transition point and a steep rise in reactive kilovolt-amperes when operating in the neighborhood of saturation.

High temperature reactor core physics and reactor dynamics

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1990
Abstract Core physics and reactor dynamics of high temperature reactors (HTR) are well understood in their basic principles due to the high standards of models and computer code systems available. In what follows an overview is given concerning the basic properties of HTR core design and dynamics code systems.

The determination of reactor kinetic parameters in a two-core reactor

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 1982
Abstract The kinetic parameters, α the coupling coefficient and \ gt the mean neutron transit time have been determined using a reactor oscillator on the coupled-core of the Queen Mary College research reactor. By using correlation techniques it has proved possible to use detectors small enough to be inserted in the fuel tanks.
