Investigating the Relationship Between Oral Reading Miscues and Comprehension in L2 Chinese

open access: yesLanguages
Reading comprehension in Chinese as a second language (L2 Chinese) presents unique challenges due to the language’s logographic writing system. Analysis of oral reading miscues reveals specific patterns in L2 learners’ reading processes and comprehension

Fine-Grained Prediction of Reading Comprehension from Eye Movements [PDF]

open access: yesProc. 2024 Conf. Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP), pp. 3372-3391, Miami, FL, USA, Assoc. Comput. Linguist., 2024
Can human reading comprehension be assessed from eye movements in reading? In this work, we address this longstanding question using large-scale eyetracking data over textual materials that are geared towards behavioral analyses of reading comprehension.

Interaction vesicles as emerging mediators of host‐pathogen molecular crosstalk and their implications for infection dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

TASK-BASED LANGUAGE TEACHING (TBLT) APPROACH: IMPLICATIONS ON READING COMPREHENSION

open access: yesEternal (English, Teaching, Learning & Research Journal), 2020
Task-based language teaching (TBLT) has exceedingly been written in many research reports but research examining the impacts of TBLT on student’s reading comprehension remains limited.

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Evaluating the Simple View of Reading Model: Longitudinal Testing and Applicability to the Swedish Language

open access: yesEducation Sciences
This study investigates the empirical validity of the simple view of reading model in a semi-transparent language, Swedish, by using a large amount of reading test data from 11,791 students. Data were collected during the primary grades (year 1–3), which

Relation/Entity-Centric Reading Comprehension [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Constructing a machine that understands human language is one of the most elusive and long-standing challenges in artificial intelligence. This thesis addresses this challenge through studies of reading comprehension with a focus on understanding entities and their relationships.

The instruction of reading comprehension [PDF]

open access: yesContemporary Educational Psychology, 1983
While it is still possible to lament the lack of good solid causally interpretable research in the area of reading comprehension instruction (Jenkins & Pany, 1980; Tierney & Cunningham, 1980), there can be little question that more research about the basic processes and instructional practices of reading comprehension has been packed into the last half

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Multi Document Reading Comprehension [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Reading Comprehension (RC) is a task of answering a question from a given passage or a set of passages. In the case of multiple passages, the task is to find the best possible answer to the question. Recent trials and experiments in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) have proved that machines can be provided with the ability to not only ...
