Tree Squirrels Selectively Disperse High‐Quality Acorns Away From Tree Trunks

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Acorn quality and squirrel feeding behavior significantly structured spatial dispersal patterns of two Californian oak species. Non‐infested acorns were preferentially selected for embryo excision and dispersed farther than infested ones. Acorns were fully consumed near tree trunks, signaling rapid feeding in safe refuges, whereas non‐eaten, partially ...

UTILIZAÇÃO DO TESTE DE CONDUTIVIDADE ELÉTRICA PARA PREVISÃO DO POTENCIAL GERMINATIVO DE SEMENTES DE INGÁ

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 1998

Targeted Photo‐Induced Elimination of Tumor‐Associated Macrophages Suppresses Cancer Progression in a Murine Model

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the selective depletion of tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs) by targeting CSF1R through near‐infrared photoimmunotherapy (NIR‐PIT). Using a combination of anti‐CSF1R Fab‐IR700 conjugates and localized light irradiation, we achieved tumor suppression and durable antitumor immunity without systemic toxicity.

Germination and soil seed bank traits of Podocarpus angustifolius (Podocarpaceae): an endemic tree species from Cuban rain forests

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2011
Podocarpus angustifolius is an endangered recalcitrant-seeded small tree, endemic to mountain rain forests in the central and Pinar del Río regions in Cuba. In this study, the germination patterns of P.

The Effects of Storage Conditions on Seed Deterioration and Ageing: How to Improve Seed Longevity

open access: yesSeeds
Seeds are classified as either: orthodox, seeds that tolerate dehydration; recalcitrant, seeds that are high in moisture content and cannot withstand intensive desiccation; or intermediate, seeds that survive dehydration but die during dry storage at low

Transgenic selection and underlying mechanisms in apicomplexan parasites

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Transgenic selection markers have driven genetic engineering in apicomplexans, enabling precise, iterative experiments. This review discusses mechanistic details of drug selection markers, strategies for marker recycling, and practical considerations for several clinically relevant parasites.

Sugar Receding in Aril Benefits the Recalcitrant Seeds of Litchi (Litchi chinensis) and Longan (Dimocarpus longan) to Cope with Dry Spells after Maturation

open access: yesHorticulturae
Litchi and longan are tropic/subtropic fruits harboring recalcitrant seeds that are covered with sugar-rich arils as the edible part. A rapid sugar content decline, called sugar receding, in the arils after the fruit maturation largely reduces the fruit ...

Arabidopsis inositol polyphosphate kinase activities regulate COP9 deneddylation functions in phosphate homeostasis

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Plant phosphate (Pi) homeostasis relies on coordinated activities of the inositol polyphosphate kinases IPK1 and ITPK1, which balance localized InsP7 biosynthesis to control COP9 signalosome (CSN)‐dependent deneddylation of cullin 1 (CUL1). Perturbation of this equilibrium affects the stability of SPX4, a key negative regulator of phosphate starvation ...

Watermelon genotype‐independent transformation via direct organogenesis from the cotyledon base

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Inducing adventitious buds from the base of watermelon cotyledon through direct organogenesis resulted in a watermelon genetic transformation system that overcomes regeneration barriers and genotype limitations.
