Analysis of recast layer thickness and martensitic layer thickness in wire electrical discharge machining

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021
Abstract Precision manufacturing is a challenging process in which high accuracy is required. Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is one of the most vital machining processes in which precision manufacturing are possible. During wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM), machining surface needs to be more precise to maintain surface integrity,

Study on surface morphology and recast layer microstructure of medium thickness stainless steel sheets using high power laser cutting

Journal of Laser Applications, 2020
With the rapid development of high-power lasers, efficiency of laser cutting and thickness of cutting material have been greatly increased. In this study, a 10 kW fiber laser was used to cut 18 mm thick 316L stainless steel sheets. The surfaces and cross sections of samples were observed by an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope.

Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system based modeling of recast layer thickness during laser trepanning of Inconel-718 sheet

Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, 2019
Re-solidification of molten material during the laser trepanning of Inconel-718 is a major hindrance in achieving good quality drill with high precision and accuracy. Re-solidification affects the performance of the drilled hole. Many researchers have tried for the optimization of laser trepan drilling in order to improve the drilled hole quality ...

Correlation of surface roughness and recast layer thickness in electrical discharge machining

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part E: Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering, 2015
Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is an extensively used method in the machining of electrically conductive materials. Recast or white layer formation is undesirable, but inevitable, result of EDM and needs to be understood and accurately determined to efficiently perform post-treatment processes for removing the recast layer caused by EDM process.

Study on recast layer thickness and residual stress during WEDM of SMAs

Emerging Materials Research, 2017
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are difficult to machine by thermoelectric processes due to the affinity of titanium (Ti) for oxygen, and the specific properties of SMAs have been taken into account for the design of SMA actuators. In this investigation, wire electro-discharge machining of a specific SMA is investigated with specific reference to the ...
