Robust beamforming methods for multipath signal reception

Digital Signal Processing, 2010
Novel robust beamforming algorithms are proposed to avoid signal cancellation in a multipath environment. The robustness is achieved by forcing the array responses to the signal of interest and its multipath signals in the pre-estimated clusters to be no less than unity while minimising the output power.

A method for training and evaluating the reception of ongoing speech

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1978
The ’’tracking procedure’’ is a method to train and evaluate the reception of ongoing speech. A talker and a receiver engage in a dialogue for a designated period of time in which the receiver reports his perception of successive segments of read text and is corrected by the talker until the text is repeated verbatim.

A new method of the codeword reception of systematic codes

IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2005., 2005
A simple method of decreasing the error probability for the reception of codewords of systematic codes is presented. In order to detect each symbol in a codeword we use different a priori probabilities for the redundant symbols and equal a priori probabilities for the message symbols.

A method for macroscopic assessment of countries' receptivity to cholera

Acta tropica, 1979
It was shown possible to assess macroscopically countries' receptivity to cholera through the use of two commonly available socio-economic indicators. The indicators used were per capita GNP and population density per km2 of inhabitable area. These are related respectively to two major determinants of cholera receptivity: standard of living and ...

The minimum norm multi-input multi-output receptance method for partial pole placement [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 2019
A closed-form analytical solution is developed for the first time that fully addresses the problem of choosing feedback gains that minimize the control effort required for partial pole placement in multi-input, multi-output systems.

The Receptance Method in Active Vibration Control

47th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
14th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
7th, 2006
The pole/zero assignment problem is addressed using a method based on measured receptances. The approach, which is well known in passive structural modification, has not been used before in active vibration control. A number of significant advantages are claimed over the conventional state-space approach that uses the mass, damping, and stiffness ...

Evaluation of Methods for Predicting Speech Reception Threshold

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1960
Articles have appeared in various journals reporting correlations between different tests of hearing acuity. 1,5,6 These reports have dealt with the use of one test as a predictor of hearing function as it would be measured by another test. Usually this attempt at prediction has concerned the relationship between a pure-tone average and some type of ...

Soil receptiveness to VA mycorrhizal association: Concept and method

Plant and Soil, 1990
The concept of soil receptiveness widely used for soil borne pathogens, is applied to the fungi forming vesicular-arbuscular endomycorrhizae. The authors propose a method for determining the mycorrhizal soil receptiveness (MSR) using leek, a highly mycotrophic plant, as a host for a bioassay.
