Androgens and androgen receptor in prostate and ovarian malignancies
Frontiers in Bioscience, 2003The molecular and biochemical mechanisms contributing to the development and progression of both prostate and ovarian carcinogenesis are currently unknown. A better understanding of the cross-talk between endocrine, signal transduction and regulatory pathways in normal and neoplastic prostatic and ovarian tissues is necessary to elucidate malignant ...

Androgen Receptor and Estrogen Receptors
2002The androgen receptor (AR) and the estrogen receptors (ER) are members of the nuclear receptor (NR) family. These NRs are distinguished from the other transcription factors by their ability to control gene expression upon ligand binding (steroids, retinoids, thyroid hormone, vitamin D, fatty acids, and other small hydrophobic molecules). Their combined

Androgen dependency of the androgen receptor in rat epididymis
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1975Abstract Binding of radioactive androgen to the 8S epididymal receptor is reduced to undetectable levels after 30 days of castration. Testosterone propionate(200 μg/day)administered starting immediately after castration and continued for 30 days prevented the disappearance of binding activity.

The role of androgens and the androgen receptor in prostate cancer
Cancer Letters, 2002Prostate cancer (PCa) is the leading diagnosed malignancy in men in western countries. The relationship between androgens and the androgen receptor (AR) has been studied extensively in PCa. Plasma levels of androgens show variations between different populations, and in many cases this correlates with PCa susceptibility.

The role of androgens and the androgen receptor in cycling endometrium
Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2012Androgens and the androgen receptor (AR) are not only required for male reproductive function, they are also essential for female reproductive physiology. Widely expressed in female reproductive tissues, AR levels fluctuate in a regulated manner in the cycling endometrium.
