Multiple regulatory mechanisms control B-1 B cell activation

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2012
B-1 cells constitute a unique subset of B cells identified in several species including mice and humans. B-1 cells are further subdivided into B-1a and B-1b subsets as the former but not the later express CD5.

B-cell co-receptors: The two-headed antigen [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 1996
AbstractLymphocytes often recognize antigens using not only their antigen receptors but also ‘co-receptors’ that bind other molecules associated with the antigen; the co-receptors then modulate the response to antigen. This concept has been used to make chimeric antigens that are extremely potent inducers of antibody responses.

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Autocrine/paracrine lysophosphatidylserine signaling suppresses B cell aggregation and tertiary lymphoid structure formation

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Accumulating evidence suggests that Gα13 signaling by G protein-coupled receptors negatively regulate B cell function. We report here that lysophosphatidylserine (LysoPS), an emerging immunoregulatory lysophospholipid, is produced upon B cell ...

Simultaneous inhibition of TRIM24 and TRIM28 sensitises prostate cancer cells to antiandrogen therapy, decreasing VEGF signalling and angiogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRIM24 and TRIM28 are androgen receptor (AR) coregulators which exhibit increased expression with cancer progression. Both TRIM24 and TRIM28 combine to influence the response of castrate‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cells to AR inhibitors by mediating AR signalling, regulation of MYC and upregulating VEGF to promote angiogenesis. Castrate‐resistant

An Introduction to Rule-based Modeling of Immune Receptor Signaling

open access: yes, 2017
Cells process external and internal signals through chemical interactions. Cells that constitute the immune system (e.g., antigen presenting cell, T-cell, B-cell, mast cell) can have different functions (e.g., adaptive memory, inflammatory response ...

EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

An antigen-driven B-cell response within the salivary glands of patients with Sjögren’s syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Infection with a bacterium or virus induces the production of antibodies, specialised protein molecules that bind to and eliminate the microorganism.

Tumor clusters with divergent inflammation and human retroelement expression determine the clinical outcome of patients with serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of treatment‐naïve high‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) and control tissues for ERVs, LINE‐1 (L1), inflammation, and immune checkpoints identified five clusters with diverse patient recurrence‐free survivals. An inflammation score was calculated and correlated with retroelement expression, where one novel cluster (Triple‐I) with high ...
