The role of somatotropin and insulin treatment in the regulation of neurotransmitter levels in the ageing brain is not fully established. We evaluated the long-term, low dose effects of somatotropin and insulin on acetylcholine and glutamate receptor subtypes functional regulation in the cerebral cortex of young (4-16 weeks) and old rats (60-90 weeks).

Two thrombin fragments of reduced carbamidomethylated human somatotropin containing the full primary structure of the native hormone (residues 1–134 and 135–191) were shown to give a recombinant with the same receptor‐binding activity as reduced‐carbamidomethylated somatotropin as tested on rabbit liver and mammary gland membranes.

Studies have shown that bovine placental lactogen (bPL) has partial somatogenic activity in vivo even though binding results clearly indicate bPL does not cause homodimerization of the bovine somatotropin receptor (bST-R). To help understand the receptor binding versus biological activity of bovine somatotropin (bST) and bPL we have developed a ...

Numerous studies demonstrated that rbST increased growth rates in several fish species, and several species exhibit GH production in tissues other than the pituitary. The role of tissue GH and IGF-I in regulating fish growth is poorly understood. Therefore an experiment was conducted to examine the effects of rbST treatment on tissue GH, IGF-I, and IGF-

[Structure and gene expression of hormonal receptors somatotropin and prolactin ].
Vestnik Rossiiskoi akademii meditsinskikh nauk, 1995The paper reviews the data on the structure and expression of genes coding for hormonal receptors of the growth hormone/prolactin family. The genes of these receptors have a complex organization. In human genome, they are located on a short arm of chromosome 5.

The present study was performed to examine the response of leptin and leptin receptor (Rb) genes to porcine somatotropin (pST) stimuli in finishing pigs. Twelve crossbred barrows (Yorkshire x Landrace) were used in this study. Animals were individually fed a basal diet containing 18% CP, 1.2% lysine, and 3.5 Mcal of DE/kg ad libitum (as-fed basis).
