Downregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors by tumor necrosis factor-alpha in cultured human vascular endothelial cells.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 1996
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) potently stimulates angiogenesis, whereas TNF-alpha has both pro- and anti-angiogenic activity. By measuring thymidine uptake, we found that TNF-alpha blocked a 2.3-fold increase in DNA synthesis induced by VEGF ...

Spatial and temporal distribution of growth factors receptors in the callus: Implications for improvement of distraction osteogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
2011-08Management of bone deficits by distraction osteogenesis is an appreciated but lengthy procedure. To accelerate the consolidation of newly formed distraction callus, an administration of growth factors into the distraction gap has been suggested ...

Interplay of integrins and selectins in metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here we review the role of integrins and their interplay with selectins in metastasis. The efficacy of integrin‐targeted therapies may be reduced in tumors where metastasis relies heavily on selectins. In certain tumors, integrins and selectins exhibit a synergistic interaction during intraperitoneal dissemination.

Vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) and its receptors KDR and flt-4 are expressed in AIDS-associated Kaposi's sarcoma.

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1999
Kaposi's sarcoma is characterized by clusters of spindle-shaped cells that are considered to be tumor cells and by prominent vasculature. Whereas spindle cells are most likely endothelial in origin, it remains controversial whether they are of lymphatic ...

The Effect of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Antagonist Peptide (VGB4) on Breast Tumor Growth Suppression in Vivo

open access: yesArmaghane Danesh Bimonthly Journal, 2019
Background & aim: The vascular endothelial growth factor of the tumor, which binds to its receptors at the level of endothelial cells, plays an important role in vascular permeability and tumor angiogenesis.

Interleukin-12 Inhibits Tumor Growth in a Novel Angiogenesis Canine Hemangiosarcoma Xenograft Model

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2004
We established a canine hemangiosarcoma cell line derived from malignant endothelial cells comprising a spontaneous tumor in a dog to provide a renewable source of endothelial cells for studies of angiogenesis in malignancy. Pieces of the hemangiosarcoma

Monitoring Dual VEGF Inhibition in Human Pancreatic Tumor Xenografts With Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound

open access: yesTechnology in Cancer Research & Treatment, 2020
Background: Association of drugs acting against different antiangiogenic mechanisms may increase therapeutic effect and reduce resistance. Noninvasive monitoring of changes in the antiangiogenic response of individual tumors could guide selection and ...

Tumor angiogenesis and anti-angiogenic therapy in malignant gliomas revisited [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The cellular and molecular mechanisms of tumor angiogenesis and its prospects for anti-angiogenic cancer therapy are major issues in almost all current concepts of both cancer biology and targeted cancer therapy. Currently, (1) sprouting angiogenesis, (2)

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Anti-angiogenic therapies for advanced esophago-gastric cancer

open access: yesIndian Journal of Medical and Paediatric Oncology, 2014
Neo-vascularization is a vital process for tumor growth and development which involves the interaction between tumor cells and stromal endothelial cells through several growth factors and membranous receptors which ultimately activate pro-angiogenic ...
