God is: children’s Bibles and Bible storybooks’ presentation of religious values

open access: yesKoers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship, 2011
This article considers children’s Bibles and Bible storybooks as vehicles for the transfer of God concepts from one generation to the next – as God is considered central to the portrayal of the confessional attributes of the religious collective.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Translating transitional justice: the Solomon Islands Truth and Reconciliation Commission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper contends that although the Solomon Islands Truth and Reconciliation Commission replicated the structure and operation of a truth commission based on a globalised and placeless theory of best practice in transitional justice, it was not ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The divine favour of the unworthy: When the fatherless son meets the Black Messiah

open access: yesHTS Teologiese Studies/Theological Studies, 2011
This article engages with Andries van Aarde’s 2001 work on the historical Jesus, Fatherless in Galilee: Jesus as Child of God. It poses the question whether Van Aarde succeeds in overcoming the shortcomings of Western, Euro-centric, male dominated ...

Reducing Medication Errors Through Workflow Redesign [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Lack of medication reconciliation at the point of transitions between skilled nursing facilities/nursing homes (SNF/NHs) and acute care hospitals (ACHs) is a common point of origin for medical errors that cause harm to patients.

Symmetric blind information reconciliation and hash-function-based verification for quantum key distribution

open access: yes, 2018
We consider an information reconciliation protocol for quantum key distribution (QKD). In order to correct down the error rate, we suggest a method, which is based on symmetric blind information reconciliation for the low-density parity-check (LDPC ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
