Beyond 5G Wireless Localization with Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces [PDF]
5G radio positioning exploits information in both angle and delay, by virtue of increased bandwidth and large antenna arrays. When large arrays are embedded in surfaces, they can passively steer electromagnetic waves in preferred directions of space. Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), which are seen as a transformative "beyond 5G" technology ...

Secure Networking with Software-Defined Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces
Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) are considered of paramount importance to improve air–ground and THz communications performance for 6G systems. Recently, RISs were proposed in Physical Layer Security (PLS), as they can (i) improve the secrecy capacity due to the controlled directional reflections’ capability of RIS elements and (ii) avoid ...

On The Optimal Number of Reflecting Elements for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces [PDF]
This work considers a point-to-point link where a reconfigurable intelligent surface assists the communication between transmitter and receiver. The system rate, energy efficiency, and their trade-off are optimized with respect to the number of individually tunable elements of the intelligent surface.

Ternary Transistors With Reconfigurable Polarities
Polarity‐reconfigurable ternary transistors are demonstrated using black phosphorus homojunction with asymmetric contacts and split‐gate structures. Suppression of majority carrier injection, while Fowler–Nordheim tunneling of low‐density minority carriers persists, enables a well‐defined intermediate state with improved on/off ratios.

Accurate Modelling of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces in THz Band
Terahertz (THz) communication is considered to be a pivotal technology in new-generation communication networks. Due to its nature, THz waves attenuate significantly. A blockage will result in a significant power loss, therefore a line-of-sight (LOS) is required.
