Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

A formal semantics for control and data flow in the gannet service-based system-on-chip architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
There is a growing demand for solutions which allow the design of large and complex reconfigurable Systems-on- Chip (SoC) at high abstraction levels. The Gannet project proposes a functional programming approach for high-abstraction design of very large

An ultrafast reconfigurable nanophotonic switch using wavefront shaping of light in a nonlinear nanomaterial

open access: yes, 2014
We demonstrate a new concept for reconfigurable nanophotonic devices exploiting ultrafast nonlinear control of shaped wavefronts in a multimode nanomaterial consisting of semiconductor nanowires. Femtosecond pulsed laser excitation of the nanowire mat is

Reconfigurable mobile communications: compelling needs and technologies to support reconfigurable terminals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
To date, research into reconfigurable mobile communications has predominantly focussed on the software radio concept, and specifically on the hardware technologies required to move physical layer processing into a programmable environment.

Fractional Skyrmion Tubes in Chiral‐Interfaced 3D Magnetic Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In chiral 3D helical magnetic nanowires, the coupling between the geometric and magnetic chirality provides a way to create topological spin states like vortex tubes. Here, it is demonstrated how the breaking of this coupling in interfaced 3D nanowires of opposite chirality leads to even more complex topological spin states, such as fractional ...

Analysis and Synthesis of a Kind of Mobility Reconfigurable Robot with Multi-Task Capability

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2011
Compared with the fixed morphological robots, the self-reconfigurable robots (SR) are very flexible as they can adapt to a wide range of task requirements.

Kinematics, workspace and singularity analysis of a multi-mode parallel robot

open access: yes, 2017
A family of reconfigurable parallel robots can change motion modes by passing through constraint singularities by locking and releasing some passive joints of the robot.

Reconfigurable Lattice Agreement and Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Reconfiguration is one of the central mechanisms in distributed systems. Due to failures and connectivity disruptions, the very set of service replicas (or servers) and their roles in the computation may have to be reconfigured over time.
