Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Flow‐based immunomagnetic enrichment of circulating tumor cells from diagnostic leukapheresis product

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The number of circulating tumor cells obtained from prostate cancer patients was increased approximately 5‐fold compared to regular CellSearch when processing 2 mL diagnostic leukapheresis material aliquots and increased by 44‐fold when processing 20 mL DLA aliquots using the flow enrichment target capture Halbach‐array.

Time to recovery of adrenal function after curative surgery for Cushing's syndrome depends on etiology.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2015
CONTEXT Successful tumor resection in endogenous Cushing's syndrome (CS) results in tertiary adrenal insufficiency requiring hydrocortisone replacement therapy.

Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

On universal sampling recovery in the uniform norm [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
It is known that results on universal sampling discretization of the square norm are useful in sparse sampling recovery with error measured in the square norm. In this paper we demonstrate how known results on universal sampling discretization of the uniform norm and recent results on universal sampling representation allow us to provide good universal

Inspiratory muscle training for the recovery of function after stroke.

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2012
BACKGROUND Inspiratory muscle weakness has been observed in patients with stroke. Inspiratory muscle training is an intervention that has shown possible effects for functional recovery of patients with stroke.

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Intravenous Paracetamol in Adjunct to Intravenous Ketoprofen for Postoperative Pain in Children Undergoing General Surgery: A Double-Blinded Randomized Study

open access: yesMedicina, 2019
Background and objectives: The combination of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and paracetamol is widely used for pediatric postoperative pain management, although the evidence of superiority of a combination over either drug alone is insufficient ...

On optimal recovery in $L_2$ [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We prove that the optimal error of recovery in the $L_2$ norm of functions from a class $\bF$ can be bounded above by the value of the Kolmogorov width of $\bF$ in the uniform norm. We demonstrate on a number of examples of $\bF$ from classes of functions with mixed smoothness that the obtained inequality provides a powerful tool for estimating errors ...
