Microstructures and mechanical properties of pure tantalum processed by high-pressure torsion
A body-centred cubic (BCC) structure metal, tantalum, was processed by high- pressure torsion (HPT) at room temperature with different numbers of rotations. The microstructural evolution was studied by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).

Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Air quality monitoring of the post-operative recovery room and locations surrounding operating theaters in a medical center in Taiwan. [PDF]
To prevent surgical site infection (SSI), the airborne microbial concentration in operating theaters must be reduced. The air quality in operating theaters and nearby areas is also important to healthcare workers.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Ultrafast optical nonlinearity in quasi-one-dimensional Mott-insulator ${\rm Sr_2CuO_3}$
We report strong instantaneous photoinduced absorption (PA) in the quasi-one-dimensional Mott insulator ${\rm Sr_2CuO_3}$ in the IR spectral region. The observed PA is to an even-parity two-photon state that occurs immediately above the absorption edge ...

Passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers and their applications [PDF]
In this paper we present some characterizations of passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers. These lasers are multimode and they exhibit a modulation of their output power even though they are DC-biased.

A Qualitative Study: Why Prolonged Stay in the Recovery Room? [PDF]
There are a number of factors that prolong patients’ stay in the recovery room (RR), which are related to system or clinical issues. However, less has been discovered from the RR nurses about reasons for prolonged patient stay and recommendations to ...

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.
