The recovery time and its predictors among under five years old children admitted with severe acute malnutrition at public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

open access: yesPediatrics and Neonatology
Background: The protocol advised by the World Health Organization suggests that therapeutic treatments center for Severe Acute Malnutrition should span two to three weeks but not surpass four weeks. Despite the existence of outpatient therapeutic feeding

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Clinical Utility of Intraoperative Parathyroid Hormone Measurement in Children and Adolescents Undergoing Total Thyroidectomy

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
Background: Hypoparathyroidism is one of the most common complications for patients undergoing total thyroidectomy. Our study's primary objective was to assess if intraoperative PTH levels correlate with parathyroid gland function recovery time in ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Comparison of post-activation performance enhancement in the lower limbs of short sprinters based on two velocity loss thresholds

open access: yesFrontiers in Sports and Active Living
ObjectiveThe present study examined the effects of post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) induced by different velocity loss (VL) thresholds on lower-limb explosive performance in sprinters under velocity-based resistance training (VBT).

Dexamethasone efficacy on bacterial meningitis – a retrospective analysis of Albanian adult patients

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2009
Background: Research on the effects of corticosteroids in bacterial meningitis (BM) yielded conflicting results. While some studies reveal that corticosteroids improve the outcomes in BM treatments, others provide strong evidence that patients do not ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Joint Sparsity with Different Measurement Matrices

open access: yes, 2012
We consider a generalization of the multiple measurement vector (MMV) problem, where the measurement matrices are allowed to differ across measurements.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.
